{EDITED 10/23}

So i want to get an intake that doesn't mount in the fender well, i just don't like the way they look.

So i needed some help figuring out what i can get.

But now i am having a disagreement with my friend (he drive an 06 gt) he is saying that the fender well intakes are much better performing than anything that has the filter in the engine compartment, and it is a waste of money to get an intake that has the filter in the engine compartment.

SO is he right? Which is has down better something like this( now keep in mind this is not exactly what i am getting just something similar!

i hate to say it, but i think UPR has what you're looking for. (CAI that only goes from filter to MAF) I cant remember exactly.

As for a home-made option, I'd suggest giving it a whirl.... Why not?

that has a tube that goes down the side of the fender and has a scoop down by the bumper so i grabs air anderson brings it up to the box?

But I wanted to see if anyone had any other ideas, I see that the 96 mustangs have cai options from jlt that have a nice heat shield but I don't know of they will bolt up to my maf?

Ps all I am looking at for now I the filter section not the tube between the maf and tb

I was with ya right up till the point above. It sounds like you are trying to make mention of the anderson power pipe? I have one and was going to recomend it. Moves the filter all the way down by the bumper as well as the maf in the fender to clean up under the hood. Its also ceramic coated for heat resistance.

unless you are going to do a ram-air type of intake just extending it down further down into the fender really isn't going to "buy" you much. Like I said that power pipe does it but because it also moves the maf into the fender.

looks to be the same shape just horribly overpriced. I mean a filter, a flange and a cover for $120 before shipping?!

I don't know the answer to your last question, but I think you could call LateModelResto and ask directly, they are pretty helpful. Check out this type of CAI. Also have you looked on Ebay, I have seen the K&N ones for close to $130.oo. So give that a try. Also I have seen used on Craiglist too! So do some seaching and I am sure you can find it cheaper. Also try autoanything.com I bought from them before and it was a good experience.

Pretty sure I have heard to stay away from the C & L MAF with the way they tune the system with the different sized holes.

I've always been a big fan of custom intakes. It doesn't take much to make one either. You can even take a kit and modify it to your liking, which is typically what I do. My Grand AM tho I build it from intake manifold to fender well. Not the greatest intake in the world but it works better than the ones they make for that car. I'm actually about to modify my BBK tomorrow that came with my car and pull it out of the fender for now and put a large Spectre filter that I have sitting in my garage on until I do my swap, at which point I'll most likely relocate the filter and MAF to the fender.

Don't be afraid to try something. The intake is the one thing that, should we say your filter falls off because of whatever reason, that your not going to hurt anything. Your car will run rough but it's not like your going to blow it up lol. So try some experimenting man and find a set up you like
