Set the knob on the timing light to 0.
Put the spout back in and rotate the dizzy back to where you started from.
Now start from scratch and pull the spout.

the knob on the light is for cars that dont have a lot of marks... it uses zero as a reference so if the knob is at ten then your balancers zero=10, if the knob is 20 then zero=20... get it?

leave the knob at zero, pull the spout, and adjust the timing to 12-14 by rotating the distributor, lock the distributor, re-check its where you want it, then put the spout back in

with the spout in the computer has full control over timing with its advance in place. when you remove the spout you remove the computer from modifying the timing and it is static.
