ok i might know how you can find out if its a vacum leak or not. Take brake cleaner ( the good stuff) an spray it around the plenum, intake ,the maf, iac...etc..ect evrywhere you could think of a leack could be. If idle goes up..there you go..or at least one of your problems. Also does you car run rich or lean? my brother had a ford f150 truck an when he put exhaust on it there was a pin hole just above the 02 that made this thing run like crap, stalling, iratic idle i welded it an never had a problem. An his never set a code either

is there something less caustic like water that I can spray? I really don't feel comfortable spraying something abrasive like brake cleaner around painted surfaces or electrical connections.

Seems as though it runs rich. I get a raw fuel smell from time to time.

I did the same procedure and it didn't help me at all either Madstang. What I did find was one of the vaccum lines was pinched shut while running. It was so old that the vaccum just collapsed the hose. It was the one that runs off the back of the plenum (rubber not plastic), towards the firewall and then to a some sensor of sorts. My car still runs like poo though lol.

I'm going to just take it to a shop, I'm worried something might have catastrophically failed. I got the occasional whiff of burning oil on my way to work, I dunno if it was my car or not, but I'm not willing to screw around with it anymore. Next paycheck the car is going to my friends shop.

yeah, I'm probably overreacting but I care way too much about this car. the fact I can smell burning out through the vents when I just have the vent on just has me worried, and on high rpm heel-toe downshifts I smell the burning oil with the window down. Just want to take care of my investment since I literally bought an s/c for it a month ago...

I hear ya, better be safe than sorry. The burning oil smell would concern me too, have you looked for a leak? maybe its just dripping from a head gasket and burning off? Get that baby checked out ASAP. Also have you checked for oil consumption?

the main reason I bought the car was it's clean underbody. there's no oil leaks any where. haven't checked oil consumption since I just did an oil change last weekend. I check oil level once a week. I'll let you know if I find anything, but I doubt I will.

look used.......

you cant tell the condition by looking at them. better of just replacing them if they have 50k+ miles on them. need a scan tool to tell if they are responding quick enough.

well putting my catted h back in I stripped the studs connected to the exhaust manifold since I was cruising on through it... Would it be cheaper to get new studs or try to use a die to fix the thread? Imma fucking idiot for using air tools on this one..

any part store should have the replacement studs, but i've ruined a couple manifolds trying to get seized studs out before.

well, if I destroy these manifolds, just more of a reason to go longtubes. I appreciate it man, I'm kicking myself in the ass for this mistake. I had everything swapped in, within 40 minutes, just got careless.

so a die, crows feet, and a little bit of elbow grease saved my life. fixed the threads, bought new manifold nuts and the stock exhaust is in place. Problem is that the cat back is mid-aligned due to the differences between the o/r h and stock. I aligned it as best as I could but it still looks terrible.

BUT, amongst all this I THINK I resolved the floating idle issue. We'll see though as the PCM recalibrates itself for the cats.

Oh and my car sounds like a damn prius now, it's too quiet!

okay so the PCM recalibrated itself, I still have a hanging idle. but going back to the quiet ass exhaust, I have noticed a loud whistle at idle. And contrary to what I thought, it's not a supercharger lol :p. I'm going to have to determine where the whistle is coming from later this week, but, I'm guessing that's my vacuum leak and my hanging idle issue.

so I ran the car harder than I've ever run it, came to a stop. no stall. so the cats are playing a role in correct A/F I think. Also no hesitation between shifts, also no burning smell...

I think I need to get a tune for the O/R H...
