Has anyone tried this? Do you cobra owners have that little piece of reflector in your headlamp to detour the bulb showing but if the HID burns so hot, wont it melt it?

its not the wattage that makes it hot. halogen bulbs burn much hotter than incandescent, regardless of the wattage. a 150W fluorescent is almost cool to the touch when on, but i wouldnt go touching a 40W halogen or incandescent bulb while its on, because it would be scorching. i would probably say that an HID bulb, regardless of the bulb type (Metal Halide, High Pressure Sodium, or Mercury Vapor) burns hotter than a halogen.

im an electrician, i work with these bulbs every day

automotive HID's are nothing more than miniature Metal Halide bulbs, which are the same type of bulbs used in stadium lighting, and a lot of street lighting (any street lighting that isnt yellow).

Well I'm glad you work with them every day but everything i can find says Xenons burn cooler and more efficient than Halogen bulbs.

Well when I had the Silverstar and Streetglog bulbs in my truck I could feel the heat.. Now I have 10K heads and fogs in my truck and it doesnt even feel warm... I am going to say they are 100 cooler..
