If your askin how long it takes for the silicone (or whatever they call that stuff) to dry it should say on the tube. I think its like 24hrs.

i used the RTV method and as soon as i got everything bolted up (about 2 hrs after i applied the RTV), i turned it on and took it for a test spin around the block, checked for leaks, and then hauled ass on the freeway to see the difference. never leaked and now that i was able to take off the manifold for the headswap this weekend, it looks like the RTV did what it was supposed to do. the seals were perfect and everything.

for the record, you dont 100% need the RTV if you use the PI manifold on NPI heads with PI gaskets. the RTV is just an insurance policy. the seal from the gasket is good enough to BARELY clear the water jacket, but it will clear it and seal it without the need of RTV. like i said, its just a really cheap (but stinky) insurance policy.

well i did the swap today and we fired it up and everything was ok. No CEL..idled fine. We let it sit running for about 20 minutes, couldn't see and leaks, and took it out for a spin. By the time we got back we noticed it cmoking a little, couldn't find any leaks though. Took it out for another test drive after the smoke seemed to clear and came back in and noticed a little smoking again. Not as bad as the first itme though. While checking the car again for leaks we noticed the CEL fturn on. We scanned it and it said cylinder 4 is misfiring.

The smoke was coming from the rear of the intake manifold. It seamed almost like it was ocming from behind. The crack in my intake was right above the 4th cylinder. We never pulled the plugs to clean them or blow them out. Just the wire boot and the injector ports.

i would just replace the plugs. the smoke was probably some oil you dripped onto the exhaust manifolds that was buring off, or maybe the valve covers didnt seal right.

You're probably leaking collant right into your intake port dude, but I'm sure you suspected that already.
