i am currently puttin together a 306....i have speed pro forged pistons, forged i-beam rods, crank will be cut, gt-40 heads (not p) as of now unported and built to match the cam, the cam is a crane power max advetised duration is 286/294 and lift is .542/.563. as of now i only have stock intake mani but lets pretend i have a decent intake setup. what is my potential whp and wtq. second question is if i decide to not build a motor and just put the heads and cam setup on my brand new stock motor, is the lift on the cam to much that the valves will hit the piston?

What are the specs @ .050??

What model is it Crane Powermax 2031?

If you did a rebuild with a low ci like a 306...I would do a custom cam (Ed Curtis, Jay Allen), AFR 185's, and a Holley Systemax II intake.

motor isnt done yet i was just trying to get an idea and see if anyone had possibly the same setup , the specs on the cam for .050 224/232, and i wanted to build a 306 on spray or boost that is steetable. i was trying to decide if i want to put the heads and cam in the motor i just put in my car or if i want to build it. havnt fgured it out yet, but im definetly gunna have the heads ported.

That's a lot of lift with the stock pistons, definitely clay that. I'm not an expert either but I'd guess that cam is a lil aggressive for those heads.

Lift doesn't matter with the pistons.

When the valve is fully open, the piston is at the bottom of the hole. It's the duration that you have to be careful about. When the piston starts coming back up, you don't want the valve to be closing too late due to a large amount of duration. The duration on that cam isn't bad though, so I doubt there will be a problem, especially if the pistons are fly cut.

yea well pistons will definetly be clayed and the heads are going to definetly be ported. the heads were built to compensate the cam and i am planing or running boost or juice when the motor is completely done. does anyone think that an e-cam would be better to run than the crane cam. my goal is to make close to 300rwhp and 300rwtq with ported gt40s and full intake and cam

I have a friend that made 293 to the wheels with ported gt-40's and ported cobra and an e-cam. So you will prolly be real close to your goal. Considering everything done right.

In most situations, no it doesn't.

When you get into big cams with lots of duration ie: ~230+ lift DOES become a big factor. 99.9% of the time - no one has a cam like that. Those that do, already know what they are doing :coolsmiley:
