Hey All, I am at the point where I'm putting things together on the Mustang a bit and need to re-key the trunk lock, as this car's original key set was bent and worn out miserably. I did get a really nice key set but i'm stuck on the trunk. any help taking it apart to re-key it would be a massive help, as there is literally nothing out there on the subject.

Thanks as always!

IIRC it is riveted in so you would need to drill the rivet out and then it just slides off the shaft I thought. I moved mine so the keyhole is behind the license plate but it has been more than a few years and I can't remember all the details.

no kidding... I was afraid to drill out the rivet as I have had no luck finding a rivet gun that accepts the ford rivets. I've bought some for the front bumper...

I completely removed mine when I installed my shaved bezel. But yeah the foxbody has that rivet under the assembly you can drill out.

take it to your local locksmith with the new key. You have to have the right parts to do it I don't think it is a DIY thing but it takes them 10-15 mins.

I've done it myself, it's a pain in the ass. Tiny springs, and you have to go through 6 different tumblers per tumbler location. It's definitely "doable" just tedious and time consuming.

Do you mean you can make a complete set for my 95? Mine has unmatched keys, I'll be needing the complete set, trunk, doors and ignition.

Thanks all for the responses, and I have news... I solved the mystery and put this together should anyone ever want to re-key their trunk lock. enjoy!

So I had checked out the entire video and great job doing this! To answer a few questions you had and some advice on a few things. These are still available unassembled, I had got a bunch of them a year ago- wafers, caps ,springs and chrome face cap removal tool are available on ebay. The spring and shaft go together so much easier when installed on plug then inserted in housing, spent a little time figuring out but take a little less then a minute

yes only the non transponder models though, I have trunk locks, door/trunk locks and ignition/door/trunk locks keyed the same, would just have to see what I have made up.

if you were to take the ignition cylinder out and take both keys and it to a locksmith in 20 mins and for maybe $40 they can make the cylinder work on the same key as the doors. You can literally pull the cylinder out at the locksmith in 2 mins with a single tool, no screws even needed to be removed. Then when he is done you just slide it in and turn the key and it is done, one key.

Sounds like a simple and affordable fix.

They are not to bad to do at all, the trunk locks are more work. I still have a few complete sets left for the 94 95 years and lots of the trunk locks that will work up to the 2004 year.
