Well I was having some idle issues and after swapping a bunch of parts I finally found my issue. These WERE brand new factory ford gaskets.

Has anyone else ever see a Ford gasket blow apart like this? And yes the intake was torqued to factory specs and in sequence.

They are very easy to rip when putting the intake on. It's very possible that you either damaged them from assembly or disassembly. I have never seen oem gaskets on a stock-is car do that.

I have seen it on Explorers. I had to do the intake gaskets on my moms '99 4.0 Sport and they were messed up like that.

it looks like a pretty clean break, no grime or soot around the edge, looks like it broke when you took it apart.

on a side note. why the use of the RTV? they usually dont recommend RTV with those type gaskets. ive never done the intakes on a 4.6l though so not sure if this is a special situation? ive found RTV usually causes as many problems as it fixes
