My Harley has enough freaking chrome on it, so I swore I wouldnt put any on the engine of the Mustang...... Besides, not taking it to car shows. I bought some chrome Ford Racing valve covers....... Well, here they are now.

Think this looks better than chrome?

Is that powdercoat? What is the finish?

They look great, I just don't know if I'd like something that bright blue on my motor.

Just curious...

Why not take a set of stock valve covers and polish them...

Chrome eventually flakes. Polished metal just needs some buffing and it looks new again.

GOOD chrome will take a LONG time to flake as long as you don't "tweak" it or anything crazy. With chrome you just take some glass cleaner and call it a day....polishing makes my elbows hurt just thinking about it.

These are two of our shop cars.

I can clean this one in 5 minutes under hood.

This one is all polished...about 5 hours when it gets dirty.

Not trying to be a smart allec........ But why wouldnt they fit? I am sure I will need an intake spacer, but that was already planned on. They are not tall valve covers, they are more of a mid size... the parts guy at Ford said they would fit and clear my roller rockers. :noes:

I was going to get a set of fabricated aluminum covers, but I honestly figured those would be too tall.

The color is "Electric Blue" and it is a translucent type of powder coat. It kind of gives them an anodized look because they still reflect like chrome. I wouldnt have minded having an aluminum set off of a Fox engine but I looked for a couple of weeks and couldnt find any.. I personally would have rather had the black wrinkle finish Trick Flow covers, but sorry gang..... wasnt going to spend over $130.00 for valve covers.

I think they will go good with the "theme" I have going on in the engine compartment, But..... Ill wait and see in a couple of weeks when I get everything back in there. And of course there will be photos.

I still am currious as to why these might not work on our car though..... Can someone explain that one to me?

The alternator on our cars is set back further towards the valve cover than on say a fox body so alot of valve covers won't fit there and the EGR valve on the inlet bend of the intake gets in the way of alot as well. I have JEGS Tall Valve covers and had to have them notched and rewelded to clear the alternator as well as run a big ass spacer...which is now a nitrous plate instead...

Ok, thanks Ryclef for the info....... Dont have the EGR so that wont be a big factor (GT40 intake and elbow) so the Alternator is the only thing I will need to keep my fingers crossed on then.. Like I mentioned these are not the "tall" ones.. So maybe just maybe Ill be able to get away with it.

Like I said........ I have too much chrome as it is now to want any more......

That's a cool translucent powder. I'll have to order some of that and give it a try. Although I don't know what the heck I'll coat that color??? Hmm....
