Allright so i went out to start the car today and all i got was click click click. shit. battery was dead. so i was like f it ill polish my intake.

I started out with 180 grit sand paper and a block to kinda knock some of the coating off, that didnt work as good so i went to my dremel. I used their 120 grit sanding attachment and that took it to bare metal pretty good. I only got some of the top side done and it took me a good 2 hours to get as far as i did. i called it a day and went to famous daves. ill post some pics in a minute..

Start out with 60 grit and a vibrating sander. Get the surfaces even and remove all the pitting and casting flash. Then 100. Then 150. Then 220. Then start polishing. Expect it to take a LONG time.

It's taken me almost a month to get mine perfect. I'm still stripping off paint. (The previous owner painted it white) However lucky for me I think it was polished before it was painted. Good luck.

What are you doing with the lettering?

I wouldnt start using any polishing type things until you have stepped up to 4-600 grit sand paper.

I have had to do quite a few things at school and they always came out looking like a mirror. Started at 120 grit and worked my way up from there.

lol. You need to have the coating stripped. Take my advice and take it to someone to have it removed. It will save you time and probably won't cost you much more if you stripped it yourself using sand paper. If there is no one in your area that does any type of chemical stripping, go get some aircraft paint stripper. It will take it off no problem. Just have some patience.

yeh i took a good portion of the casting off, now all i have to do is little touch ups, in the areas i couldnt get sanded well, i got a ton of A. stripper so i should be good. i went a little deep in some areas with the dremel, but not to bad, im just going to have to spend extra time on it smoothing it out. ill post pics later tonight probably haha later :happydrunks:

I'll tell you how I would do it, rough sand it, then use a felt wheel on the grinder, that'll make it nearly polished, the just buff it.
