According to my owners manual I appear to have a 3.8 oil dipstick... Shows the flexible cable type for the 3.8 and the solid metal one for the 4.6... Oil check not showing on dipstick... Wondering if they are different lengths... Don't want to run with no oil, want to see correct amount when checking....

I believe the oem one was the flat one and aftermarket/revised perhaps one is the cable one. I had a flat/curly one in my 00 gt then a cable one when the motor was replaced. My 02 gt has a curly one too so I’ve had both.

On a side note, if you have to change the oil soon you might as well do so and put in 6 quarts to see where it measures on the dipstick and mark it as reference.

I have a ‘97 Cobra convertible, bone stock with approx. 26,000 miles. Everything on it came from the factory, including a flat metal oil dipstick. So, maybe they had both as stock, depending on the bin they were pulling from.

Any thing is possible . Ford dose e lot of different parts on there vehicles
I would not mind having the metal blade type in mine
The cable dipstick is a pain in the ass to read sometimes
If you get a part number let me know I may swap it

Was actually kind of surprised the 4.6 takes 6 qts.. Just seemed a lot although my two six cylinder BMW s take 7 qts... Both 2.8s...20200524_120239(0).jpg 20200308_174138_kindlephoto-37207816.jpg

It was revised in I think 01 to 6 quarts from 5 because the pan could go dry during high rpm runs.
