i got bored this week and found a 03 cobra online that i could afford. so i got all excited and then i got an online insurance quote. 4800 a year!!! so my boat was sunk :crying: well got to wondering what a junked cobra drivetrain costs. e-mailed a couple places and got a 7000 price for a low mileage swap. so now i gotta figure out what i NEED to have to make it work. i searched a couple threads and found swaps but they werent just factory swap. my list now is as follows so please feel free to add to my list or let me know that i dont need it. I want the heat and pw and pdl to work too lol.

longblock with blower
wiring harness
pcm
Heat exchanger stuff
t56 trans
Trans Brace?
Speedo cluster?
Do i need fuel pump or lines or could i get a 255L and use factory lines?
Do i need the steering column?

You don't need the harness or PCM. You will need aftermarket rails and a 255 lph pump, as well as a custom tune...

No need to the speedo cluster, you will need a speedcal.

You do need the trans crossmeber, if that's what you mean by brace.

You don't need the column.

I trust this is not your only car? It's not as easy to swap in a Terminator driveline as it is for a chimp to eat bananas.

there's a guy doing this right now in the build ups. I'd pm him.

He's doing it to a pushrod car, that's alot harder, and he's intentionally swapping everything.

if your doing the swap make the right choices. stock fuel pumps arent good enough from factory so make that upgrade first.

yea i saw and read that build. his setup is a bit different than what im looking at doing. he swaped the whole cars wiring out, and that doesnt look fun. so JR are u suggesting that i use all the old npi sensors, ignition, and computer and do it similar to how a pi engine swap is done. that could save time and money if i could do it that way. and i didnt even think of a speedcal, so that will save money. they wanted 750 for the fuel lines and pump. for 750 i could do the rails, 255L, and braided ss line. thanks for the input.

o and i forgot to add a clutch to the list

Where did you find a 03/04 Cobra drive line for 7k? I looked all over and could not find one for less than 10k. If I wanted a complete wrecked car(which I did) it was 12k+.

i went on car-par.com and did a search and e-mailed everyone in the area. im still deciding if i should do the swap. i'm having the guy send me a list of what the 7000 includes and the mileage. i e-mailed 2 places and one of them mailed me back a 11500 quote and the other had like 6 or 7 cobras and emailed me the lower quote.hje said 7k -8500 depending on mileage, so im waiting for an email back. im crossing my fingers that he didnt forget the tranny at that price.

can anyone tell me if i can just use the npi wiring harness and sensors, and just put the sensors on the 03 motor and go get a dyno tune? im not sure what all is different withthe 03 cobra motor. do they have a knock sensor or any different sensors than what i have on my 96?

For 7k you will probably just be getting an engine and thats it. Good luck with it, I hope I am wrong.

I paid 6k for a rolled 03 Mach1.

All the freaking technical BS aside, go talk to your agent. Dont go with that online bullshit, i dont know who you do your insurance business with but unless you got a lot of incfractions on your record that sounds way high. I checked on the insurance stepping from my 02 to an 03-04 cobra and it was not that much.

I agree with you...

I mean, you can supercharge or turbo any 96-04 stang and have a faster car than an 03/04 cobra...

But you wont have that unbreakable block or a 4v

Theyre amazing cars but its nothing special....I get compliments everytime I stop anywhere about my clean/blown sn95.

Seriously, everywhere I go people are asking me about the car and talking about how badass the blower sounds.

03/04 cobras are amazing cars if you have the money but for a normal person on a budget it seems like a far better Idea to throw a 4k dollar blower on a GT rather than buy a cobra.

I think the swap is a non return style fuel system and yours is return. You will somehow need to add the rail sensor to your harness and a few other things. Probubly much eaiser to swap puters and harness.

If it was me I would just buy a termy and find a lower cost insurance co. I have progressive and I had a 50 dollar a month increase added. I called them to complain. Then I told them I have been shopping around and found others that would give me the same coverage for half the money. (Which was total BS) They matched the price almost LOL. I wen from 300 monthly payments (2 vehicles) to 160.

Well i got the e-mail and he now has like 3setups in stock between 8k-8500. and yes that included motor, trans, wiring, pcm, and everything to make the swap. i'm not sure if i am gonna swap or not. i figure after fuel rails, speedcal, clutch, and other odds and ends that it'll cost 9kish. don't know it its worth it. could take a personal loan out for like 400ish a month for 2 years. i think it depends on how work is this summer. there was talk about shutting down for a week or so b/c theres no work :nonono:
