So Im having to rebuild my diff because it's making weird noises and I want 3.73's.. Looking at $200 for a diff, $250 for gears and installkit, $700 for installation, probably $300 for a alu d/s too. Excluding the sh*tload in shipping because they're all heavy items.

My next step would've been a catback because I'm running the stock catback..

Then it dawned on me, now would be the perfect time to do an IRS swap! I've always wanted that because I daily my car, and it's much better for daily driving. Also comes with 3.55 gears which are perfect for my KB plans, would require a new driveshaft aswell I think? And would require a new catback, so might as well buy an IRS catback right away..

Is this doable in a long weekend for a hobby-bob like myself? And what are the costs of a good condition IRS these days? Any other parts strictly required?

I saw a random ad on craigslist for one in indianapolis for $900 i think. Cash talks. Probably could hassle him down a bit...

I'm betting it would be fun to find an IRS setup for that over there. Though, if you wanna do it i'm pretty sure there's a thread on here with someone that did it.

i saw a "Mustange Cobro" (??) IRS for sale on craigslist for 1200 the other day.
i wouldnt buy that particular one for the simple fact that they clearly have no idea what theyre talking about, but people around here want top dollar for fucking everything, 900-1000 would prolly be about right

I have no real need for the solid, only drawbacks. Money is just as much as swapping an IRS.

Ive seen IRS's listed on Craigslist and local forums anywhere between $250-$1000. Depends who's selling it and why. I've been tempted to grab one, since I've seen a few IRS catbacks listed for under $100.

I'm just giving you crap lol.

Yeah if you don't ever race and it's your DD then an IRS is more comfortable and the exhaust looks sexy as hell.

I absolutely love the IRS in my `97, totally changed the car for the better, and my old SRA setup wasn't bad.

old -
4.30 gears
03 cobra clutch packs
11.65" cobra brakes
MM HD Adj. lower control arms
Bilstein shocks

new-
IRS
MM Poly IRS cradle bushings
IRS Diff brace
03 cobra spec H&R race springs
Bilstein shocks

the only drawback is my dynomax superturbo catback, or the mufflers since the offset is different, did not work anymore, so I had to pickup an IRS catback, which I ended up getting a 2.5" stainless flowbastard catback, it's nice quality but way to fucking loud for me, and I don't feel like putting $250 into magnaflo or dynomax mufflers for it, blah.

I've auto-x'd with the IRS twice now, and will again this sunday. It's -worlds- better all around in the car. I can trail brake, and accelerate through the apex. Plus the car doesn't ride like a pickup truck through bumpy corners and shitty socal freeways.

Already have some new frpp 4.30 gears to throw into the IRS rear later this summer to get the punch back.

Sounds good! Anything I need to really pay attention at when buying and swapping the IRS?

Shipping from Texas is about 300usd in a container from friends of mine. Still have to probably ship it domestic US.

you have to drill two vertical holes on each side up into the frame rail/trunk. all 99+ cars have this, but not pre99's. You will also have to rebend your brake line a little bit off the caliper, but not too bad. And i think the e-brake cables are differnet, not sure though.
