I picked up this 1995 GT in the Fall. It's super ugly, but the bones are good.
Shock towers are really clean, especially for a New England car. It was repainted because of shot paint supposedly.
I was told it had a cam, and 4.10 gears. It didnt run, but a new distributor fixed that. Then it ran super poor. I bought a refurbed PCM, when I went to install it I found a board plugged into the factory PCM with a USB cable and a button cell battery. I replaced the computer since I had it, and it ran better. I then swapped the BBK MAF for a stock replacement one, and it's running better again.
Plans are to make a fun driver and track toy. Engine mods are going to be pretty much nothing other than maintenance. It'll be fast and torquey enough for me as it is.
Suspension is waiting to be installed, Koni Oranges and SVE springs. Maybe more eventually.
Brakes will be stock rear, and Cobra up front.
It came on the teeny stock 16's. I found these 17x9 FFR's for a good deal so they will be sitting under the fenders for a while. I'm thinking of a square 275 set of Firehawk 500's for tires.
I previously owned a 1980 Mustang Ghia hatch as my first car, 89 4cyl Convertable, a 94 V6 with 3:73's (was my favorite Mustang), and a 2004 GT I bought new.
I'm not worried about ultimate track/autocross performance. I have a lot to learn before it's the tires or suspension limiting my track times. I ran track days and autocrosed with my wife 20 years ago in a fairly prepared Focus ZX3, so I know what I'm getting myself into.
Anyway, here's a pic of the old girl with the new wheels installed.

It sounds like you have experience with these cars and autocross. But, if you end up having any questions about autocross mods, I'm always happy to help.

It's definitely going to be lowered. Springs and shocks are already waiting in the garage.
Below is a pic of my then new 04 GT. It went to some kid in the military, and 6 months later it was totalled.

I've watched some of your videos, and I appreciate the support. Major goal for this car is to have fun. I'm not going for FTD anymore.
This was the GT at a local autocross, and the V6 I had. I miss the V6 more than the GT

If the pic you posted is any indicator, it looks like a solid platform to start from. The chip on the car sounds like you may have just lucked into a Moates QuaterHorse tuner. If they went through all the trouble to swap a cam and tune it, you're off to a pretty decent start, if you want future mods.

Small update. It's been tough finding time to get to work on the car. I was able to find a replacement hood for the damaged one that was on the car. I replaced the gross 1 piece headlights with stock headlights and side lights. I put on real taillights to replace those chrome abominations too. I had to go with the later tails as the wiring was already modified when they put that chrome ones on. I installed a set of LMR SVE Springs with Koni orange shocks all around. Since the car needed ball joints, I replaced them with a set of roll center correcting ones from Summit racing. They came in a non descript cardboard box, but when I opened them up, they had blue dustboots and that nice little S logo on the bottom. I saved enough money buying the "knockoffs" that it about paid for the ball joint press. That press made the job a dream. A set of Cobra brakes have been installed up front. I was able to piece together a kit really cheap. I found a set of new Mach 1 calipers way cheaper than cobra ones, found closeout rotors and pads from rock auto, and installed stainless braided brake hoses. The rear will be sock replacements. I cleaned the interior a little, cleaned out the trunk and gave the car it's first wash since I got it in October.

FANTASTIC!

Now its time to go find the local burnout competition stripes. You know, where someone lays out a set of burnout stripes and then later someone else comes around and lays a longer set. You go find that area.....show'em who da boss is!

I took it on the road for the first time this weekend. Just to the gas station and back. It's got a full tank of Premium. It ran just fine.
Definitely needs an alignment after lowering it. Good think the tires are just placeholders for now.
I replaced the bad pass window motor, and now both windows go up and down.
The interior got a good cleaning as well

A couple of small updates, and 1 bigger one.
Added a phone mount to my home made block off plate. The plate is made from 1/4" thick textured plastic.
Also installed a Mach 1 front lip, I'm really happy with how it came out.
Lastly, the car made the 15 mile round trip to it's first cruise night. it seems to run great. Definitely need an alignment after lowering it. 4:11 gears also are way to steep for the street.

4.10 gears are great for the street., as long as it's a 4.6.
I ran 4.30s on the Cobra for many years

The car made it to its first real show over the weekend. It ran great, but it looks like there is a small coolant leak at the thermostat housing. The flat black paint just wasn't cutting it. It got a quick spray of gray just to change up the look. It also got some LED bulbs up front with amber fogs, and led plate lights.
This weekend it gets an alignment so its ready for Mustangs on the Mountain at Palmer, Ma in 2 weeks

Palmer is about 2 hours from me, otherwise I'd be heading to that one too.
