My ??? is would it be safe to switch from regular 10w30 oil to full synthetic oil at this point? (Both on the motor and tranny)

Yes it's safe but switch to 5w30. 5w20 if it doesn't see much hard track duty. AMSoil or Mobil1 are my favorites. RP has too many detergents which wear out to quickly which means more oil changes at a higher cost per oil change.

My experience with synthetic is that if you have leaks now, you will really have leaks with synthetic. I switched back to a good quality conventional (Mobil 1 clean 5000) because I couldnt afford synthetic and it leaked alot.

I switched to Mobil 1 at about 120K (now @ 157K) and have had no leak issues. Fuel mileage went up slightly on paper. Oil burning (or leaks) can be slightly increased due to the more consistant molecule size in the synthetic vs. the conventional oil.

I use royal purple 10w30 and some Restore. Engine felt a lot smoother and with a little(only a little) more power by the restore. My baby with 27xxxxmi deserves it!

Ok, so I should switch to AMSoil 5w30 full synthetic, right.

On the leaks part, I've got no leaks at the moment other than a busted o-ring of the power steering line.

id do it... im at 120,xxx and not a problem with full synthetic... if you start smoking out the exhaust, change to a synthetic blend. i used royal purple full synthetic and i smoked like crazy, went back to moble 1 full synthetic and its been great ever since.

also, i have a set of PS lines i can sell you if you're interested. just PM me.

Amsoil and moble 1 are both great products, i use moble 1 myself...
