Is the LMR 4.10 Gear kit worth it?

Tame? Oh no not a car that's well balanced and easy to drive how terrible! ;)
3.55’s don’t make a well balanced car it’s a little deeper then that . If gears steeper then 3.55’s make it hard to drive you can’t drive good in the first place .

Not hard to drive, rather annoying - lots more noise from all the RPM, especially on the highway.

I run all seasons, naturally aspirated and have to pretend there's an egg under my foot in 1st with 3.08's .
I wish I had that same problem, my car can't break loose in a straight line lol

Again though, the Mach 1 is not a 96-98 4V.
3000RPMs to keep up with traffic? Not sure I'm following you.
3.55 is your max gear you would ever use? You're missing out, unless you plan on driving a pushrod 5.0 for the rest of your life.
Yes, 3.55's are the max I would ever go in a Fox/SN95. The 4V benefits big time for sure with 4.10's or more, but you are just sacrificing the drivability. You end up with a car that makes a racket everywhere it goes, while not being all that much faster, if any. With my 3.08's for example, I can shift it just below 2000 RPM to keep up with daily traffic in my area. When I am doing 30-35 MPH, it stays in 4th and just cruises along at 1200-1400 RPM. On the highway doing 60, I am at 1700 RPM give or take a couple turns. Keeps the car quiet when the garage has given me a headache already.

You COULD start in 2nd if 1st is too short due to the crazy rear end ratios, but that doesn't sit right with me that 1st is just a "fun" gear. These aren't old trucks with a granny gear, they are Mustangs. They are a normal car, and normal cars set off in 1st gear. Not 2nd.

This whole statement sounds like it's coming from someone who has never gone beyond a 3.55 gear.
You're not "racing around town". You're actually in a higher gear and lower RPM when cruising around town.

I'm not trying to argue with you, but just no.

For a guy with his first Mustang he’s heavily opinionated on 3.55’s being the max gear when he’s still got stock gears .

I'm just wondering why stop at a measly 4.30 when you can throw a dana 60 with 7.17's and 2:1 portals back there? Or at least 5.13's in your 8.8..

It's just like all the oil arguments that take up 50% of the internet where some people insist thicker engine oil is always better but then stop at 10w40 or maybe 20w50 but never Chevron Meropa 680 Gear Mud.

If more is always better for everyone no matter how they use their car then how do you decide what too much is? And why wouldn't you encourage everyone else to do less so you can have the best car all to yourself? ;)

True, first Mustang lol, but not first car. I am just saying many people end up regretting putting ring and pinion in their cars. You've seen it on the forums I'm sure. I like my gears long legged! I could use 5th in town, but then what about the highway? There is no 6th so it is going to be a buzzy ride! And getting up to 5th when starting in 2nd may not be too bad, but starting in 1st, and you need to turn a lot of RPM to not hold up anyone behind you. I already said how I felt about using second gear to start.

If it were an automatic, I wouldn't think twice about 4.10's because you don't have to do the shifting. The highway is just a compromise. But to have to do all the shifting and a buzzy ride at 80MPH? No sir. Not for me, and many others.

That is just my opinion though, and same to you. Not arguing, just debating right?

I would agree, but if you're a 20-something just hooning around at night after college class lets out.....yeah.

Just my opinion based off past experience, a 96-98 4v rocking a 3.73 and a stock T-45 is a freaking good time.

Lower gears are fun. They just have diminishing practicality the lower you go. Ie driving 4.10s in a 2v with an early tr 3650 you shift into second before you're through the intersection And 3000 rpms at 80 mph gets old fast... but it sure is fun!!! :) if its mostly local and hardly on the interstate the 4.10s or 4.30s would be fun and wild!

Ha, that is just perfect because I am that exact 20 year old that has fun at night after college. Yeah shorter gears would definitely make it more fun, and I absolutely believe 3.73 and a 4V is a ton of fun.

I guess I’m just in the “more power not more gear” crowd

It's a trade-off. The more power you have then a shorter ratio will just sacrifice all traction, not good.

N/A cars (aside from big cube motors) would do well to rock a short gear. My car is living proof.

Since everybody's idea of a good time is different the real pity here is there's no inexpensive way to try out gears unless you got a real good friend with them who'll let you drive their baby.

You can try downshifting (4th gear with 4.30 gears is similar to 5th gear with 3.08 gears) to simulate what life would be like just sitting on the highway but that doesn't simulate what 1st gear is like nor does it simulate how a higher axle ratio reduces the versatility of each transmission gear.

.68 overdrive here my car turns like 1800rpm at 75mph in 5th with 3.55’s on a 26” tire not ideal . My cobra with factory 3.27’s would peg the speedo in 4th gear .

Impossible, a 3.55 with a 26” tire should be 2400-2500 RPM with a 0.68. I turn more than that with 3.08s and a 25.7 inch tire.
