i bought a 98 GT auto n february. it shifts very firmly when im on the throttle about 80%-WOT. feels just like a manual from 1st-2nd-3rd when in drive. and if i do the 1st-2nd shift thru the shifter the tires will chirp pretty good. even in dry conditions. jw if ne1 knows if this is just how the autos shift or if sum1 previously installed a shift kit or chip on my 98. thanx

so far as a shift kit, you'd need to dig into the tranny to figure that out.

you can up the line pressure for the trans in the tune. and only for WOT shifts. my xcal3 does it in my 98 gt auto.

if it has a chip in it you can see it in the port, it will be there. it may have one with a tune from someone else in it. have to look.

so far as stock, they shift pretty decent at WOT.

Yep the line pressure can be adjusted in a tune and you will have to take the pan off to see if you have a different VB. PLEASE make sure you do not shift into O/D at Wide open throttle! Thats what kills a 4r70w.

I've got a 98 with a 4r70w, and I have a quick question. So if i want to make a WOT pass, should I turn off the O/D? Also should my stock 98 be able to chirp tires in between 1st and 2nd gears? Thanks for answering a noob's question.

if your making a WOT pass, assuming you mean at the drag strip, you should turn your OD off. even though you probly won't hit OD in the 1/4 anyways. you'll probly be just getting into your last gear as your go through the traps.

and yeah, it will more than likely chirp the 1-2 shift at WOT.

Also remember that your stock ECU cuts the O/D back on around 85-90 mph, you'll need a chip or flash tuner to raise that figure or lock it out.
