Ok so a little about me. My name is TJ, i work as a truck driver/welder/fabricator at a cotton gin/farm in Mississippi. My first car was a 68 mustang coupe with a 289 that my mom bought me for my bday and christmas while i was still in high school. Me and my dad did all the work together to get it running and driving then painted it a home mixed purple with silver racing stripes. i drove it till the trans went out and ended up selling it just due to the fact that i didnt have the finances to do a full ground up resto, and regreted it ever since. Now ten years later i just so happened to check out craigslist the other night when i couldnt sleep and what did i find but a 2001 Mustang Bullitt with 78K miles and only asking $4800 talked them down to $4500. Only down side is it looks like someone got a little happy on the gas and ended up spinning it into a ditch backwards. Its got to have a left quarter panel and tail light front and rear bumpers probably gonna put a new door skin and front fender also just due to the fact i want this thing back in perfect shape without bondo where the door and fender have been straightened. Check engine light was on, checked it and got a cyl 5 misfire and the pervious owner had already put a coil on cyl 5 so i cleared the light and with the little ive drove it since it hasnt come back on. Going to go ahead and change the plugs out and do a oil change tomorrow. i know everyone wants to see pics so here is just a couple.

Looks like a pretty solid start. Other than bringing the car back to its former glory, got any plans for it?

Oh yeah welcome to the forum!

no real plans as of yet besides getting it back to pristine conditon. im not to happy with the low factory hp rating it has by todays standards so i might consider a supercharger once its looking better than when it rolled off the dealer lot. Thats about the only thing ive considered, i think the closer to stock i keep it the more it will hold its value. Windows will get tinted and liking the idea of doing the sequential turn signals mod and maybe night shade the tailights will be the extent of exterior mods. Dad priced the quarter panel at $1300 his cost and was told there was only one in the US in CA. So im wondering if there is any difference in the quarter panel from a standard GT body to the Bullitt edition, anyone have a clue? If they are the same i can find one much cheaper used from a junk yard. And thanks for the warm welcome

i would try to keep all the panels authentic bullit stuff, but if it's out of budget, then forget it. i don't know if there's a different in quarter panels, but the side skirts and scoop are different for sure.

Oh dont even get me started on the side skirts. long skirt blow the door is there but its missing the small front section on both front fenders and dad checked on parts today and said Ford dosent even offer those two pieces anymore so i got to find a used pair hopefully without having to get the full kit.

i have mananged to find a full set of rocker moldings but of coarse they have already been repainted green and i need them black plus the asking price for all 4 pieces is $1250. in order to fix this thing back 100% stock its looking like its gonna be close to $3k in just parts and paint. But ill still have less invested than the fair cond value from kbb. which is $9100.

welcome! can't wait to see this thing after your done with it. You said you wanted sequential tails & tinted right? Save yourself the trouble of nightshading em and check out AmericanMuscle.com -- They have a smoked taillight kit with the option of adding sequentials if you want. Just thought I'd put that out there for ya

Ill check them out but my main reasoning behind night shading the stock ones was i can alway wet sand it off if im not happy with it or decide to go back stock later down the road.

Thanks guys. The Bullitts have serial numbers that are put on when being built and the sticker on the strut tower tends to wear off to where you cant read it. But i did find the second sticker under the back seat and my number is 1892. Dad is getting a quarter panel ordered and gonna get started on the body work soon as he finishes a few other small jobs he has to do for customers.
