Hey guys,

I finally decided to start polishing my car myself. I just ordered one of the Porter Cable kits from Chemical Guys! I can't wait until it gets here to get some tips.

Tips? Prep,prep,prep,cry,finish.

Enjoy your labor.

Sounds about right!

Depending on the severity of scratches and swirls, you might only need to do a nice polish, glaze, and LSP (sealant or wax).

Usually if a car has moderate to severe swirls, I'll use this process:

1) Meg's 105, orange Hexlogic pad, speed 4-5 on the PC
2) Meg's 205, white Hexlogic pad, speed 4-5 on the PC
3) CG EZ Creme glaze, black Hexlogic pad, speed 2-3 on the PC
4) hand apply carnuba paste wax...my favs are CG Pete's '53, AutoGlym HD, and for the guy with deep pockets (not me, I won mine) CG E-Zyme

If the car has light swirls, I skip step 1, and go right to step 2 where I either use the Meg's 205 or CG Scratch and Swirl Remover...depends on the paint.

This is what I've found to be very effective, but certainly not the best or the only way to go about it. I've done tons of research, tons of product testing, and read pretty much every one of Handz's threads multiple times. Sometimes he is a clown but that guy fuckin knows his shit!!

Good luck, post pics!

look into the megs microfiber kit. The D300 is almost as strong at M105 with great working time and the microfiber pads work really well. Also look into the BlackFire product line as well you cant go wrong with them as well. Congrats on getting your PC!

There are so many good products available.. CG does make some good stuff. Megs 105-205 has a great name behind it too, I'm curious about their microfibre system. Although I already have plenty of pads and product..

Hope you enjoy it, very easy to use. I learned on a circular.

You'll love the microfiber system, its more "user friendly" than the M105/M205 and it works really well. Surprisingly the D300 finishes down to LSP ready on most cars ive done and that ranges from severely swirled to light swirls and RIDS.

To be honest, i still prefer m105/m205 because of the working time and the amount of product used.

I have a ton of different pads and products but i always end up ordering more and more and I use different brands and different types of products for each job because each one is different and if I can get out of doing more work and get the same result im gonna do it haha
