for some reason I always thought it was normal and forgot about it but the shop next door to where I work asked me why my rotor isnt completly used by the caliper? I have the Cobra 10anny brakes and slotted/drilled rotors and only about 80% of the rotor is used, there is about 1.5" that isnt used/touched by the caliper, is this normal?!

thanks

you can see what i mean in this pic if u look close

I have huge doubts that that is normal. It doesn't make sense that they wouldn't use that much of the rotor. Here' a pic of mine to compare:
yours looks exactly like his.

he is...look at your rotor. see the rusted part starting in the middle and going up to the contact area? he has nice rotors with no rust. the part that looks shinier on his is the same as the rusted part on yours.

I am also. you have to look close in his pic to see, but he has just as much contact as you and I... his rotor is just hard to see because his is shinier in the middle than the contact patch. Our is easily noticed because we have rust in the middle.

ok...they are the same, you just are not understanding me.
THis is mine, the difference between mine and Matts is the rusted area isnt rusty on his.

I don't have 1.5" of unused rotor around the outer edge of the rotor. The main rusty area is in the middle.
no one said it was around the outer edge.

I know what you're saying, we're both just looking at it different ways. I took it as being around the outside, not on the inside. It was my mistake... I don't see why he would think something is wrong if its like that, ive never given mine a second thought.

The rust does look like chit, i gotta either clean mine or get new ones and paint them. Probably do something when i paint my calipers, those look like crap too :hammer:

i agree my rears have the smallest contact patch its not even funny haha...but the reason matt is concerned is his car is a gt with a cobra conversion so he is wondering if something went wrong or what not...
