ok here..WHAT IF..yea i said what if..what if i were to port my heads while on the car, just the intake runners to make them closer match to PI intake ports..If i had the inners fully closed off so nothign would fall down to far and id obviously air blow the shit out of everything and clean out everything above the valves..can it be done? or will just one tiny spec of alumi dust wreck the motor...its so easy to jam something ontop of the valves and make it a snug fit to where i doubt anything would get under it..im not talking some radical port job but you and i know how these npi intake runners are..this is just a thought so dont jump me stupid.

My guess is this:

Not enough gain to matter.
You will be rebuilding the motor 2k miles from the port job.

Not worth it IMO. It's the fine particles that will shell the motor, may as well pour fine sand in it. Do it right and remove the heads.

Don't do that . Bad idea for sure even blocking them off when you pull whatever you had in there out some stuff will be sure to fall in the intake ports. If I were you I'd pi swap it quit being lazy.

Like others have said, DONT DO IT, unless you want to blow your engine up again. I have a suggestion though. Why dont you save the money up to have a shop install the P.I. heads, cams, and P.I. intake together. Part of the problem that you are having is mix and matching P.I. parts with non P.I. parts.......not a good idea.

But didnt he do the PI swap (or at least part of it) and he blew up his engine? Something got in there, wasn't torqued down right, or the short block and rotating assembly had other things going on with it....I honestly dont think this is in his skill level. Nothing wrong with that, as we all have different skill levels. I know how to rebuild a manual trans, did 4 cyl to 8 cyl engine swaps on fox bodys as a side job, ect, however I dont have the time or the patience to mess with an auto trans or a rear end rebuild.....

If you can rebuild a manual tranny you can do a PI swap. I did the swap at 17 having never worked on cars after I blew a head gasket and the car still ran until the day I started parting it out for my new project. Not tooting my horn, just saying if a dumb ass like me can pull it off you definitely can. You slow down when you start pulling off the front of the engine, k member and have to start moving up and down the motor to get the headers off.

I'm 25 now and still afraid of transmissions.

Do not port and polish while they're still on the motor, it's epic fail mode. You can rip everything down to the heads and have it towed to a mechanic who should be able to pull them off with their specific tools in like an hour, maybe that's a good compromise?

we all need to know our limits. I have no fear of any wiring or electrical questions/trouble shooting but I am not that good mechanically and do not want to learn what not to do by blowing a motor.

I agree. Also, forget the built not bought stuff. I see nothing wrong with paying those who know more than you or have more time than you do to do things to your car. As long as you do some of the work, and give credit where credit is due, than it is not "built" for you.

There, you just discovered the limits of your abilities. Now with that being said, save your money to have some one do it. There are plenty of shops in the area that can and will do it right for a good price.

You have a goal, you know what you have to do......
