So finally, we have gone a step further! We didn't get too much done yesterday, but we got one of the most time consuming things done...the bracket for the turbo. We also re-did the cooling system, because whoever has a 96-98 Cobra knows there are hoses galore! lol Here are a couple pics

You can't see it in the engine bay pics, but we removed all of the hoses going to the factory thermostat housing, along with removing the housing as well. We replaced it all with a 98GT lower radiator hose, added a billet t-stat housing to the upper hose, and modified the coolant crossover pipe.

Here is part of the crossover pipe. We cut off the piece that ran a hose down the the thermostat, and welded it closed.

Here is the turbo bracket, then a couple engine bay pics to follow.

This upcoming weekend is PRI, so the car won't be worked on, but we will continue the weekend after that. I'll keep you all posted for the next update!

it is only a weekend thing, mainly because my b/f owns the shop, and all the bays are packed to the brim with cars...Saturday's aren't regular working days for him, so we take my car then and are able to give it full attention.

Sucks...wish I had all the tools here at home or else I'd be doing it when I had time.

OK. Am I missing something here. This may be a stupid question but, the Cobra's cooling system runs backwards for a reason. Is it a common practice to replace the Cobra's T-stat with a GT's hose and pump and move the T-stat to the top of the engine when installing a turbo??

The original idea was to pump freshly cooled water from the radiator directly to the heads instead of going through the block first. This way a higher compression ratio could be used w/o detonation. Some GM's use this strategy as well.

Wouldn't this "reverse flow" feature be needed even more now with the boost? Even more than when it was naturally aspirated?
First I've ever seen of this modification.

GT :dontknow:
