I'm looking at an 02 gt, can't find any good 96-98 which i would prefer. Most of the 02's around here have 85-100k on them, i'm a little leary about buying something with high miles, is this justified? How much would a rebuild cost? to get something with 40-50k on it would be 2,000 more upfront. I would like forged interals ect later on and eventually a turbo but for now i just need something reliable.

Thanks

depends on how well it was maintained. lots of Mustangs out there w/ 100K+ miles on them and they run fine. Is this going to be a daily driver or a street strip weekend car?

I don't know, but when you divide it out by the 8 years it could have been driven. That's not so high, right? Like 11,000 s year. This is what my head comes up with. @ 7 years, still 14,200.

Yeah i have 170 on my clock and i drove without a odometer gear for a year and a half. So it should be in the 180k range. My car runs like a champ, yeah you will have things to fix occasionaly but with the help of everyone you can figure out what it is pretty quick. My car always does what i want and i beat the crap out of it also. I am still trying to find a block to start my motor Build.

A stock mustang is a reliable car in my opinion i would look and see if you can find someone that has owned the car since a lower # of miles and see if you can find one that was meticulously maitained. I was lucky as my Best friends dad did everything to my car and that's the only reason i bought the car. That and i only paid 1800 for it :)

Like everyone is saying "properly maintained." I knew zero history on my car when I got it except a few things like someone was racing it around and broke the balancer then traded it in at ford because they must have thought the motor was blow. I always look at the tires to see how much rubber is up in the bumper, things like that give you an idea.

i have a pi swapped 96 that has about 200k on the shortblock and she pulls hard and has no issues. the mod motors as well as the pushrod versions are real reliable in these cars.
