So I was looking at the factory intake setup the 4.6 uses and it seems like there's too many twists and turns for the air to pass through. I realize turbulence is necessary to create velocity, but I figure a forward facing throttle body setup with short runners would be less restrictive, no?

Notice how this LS1 manifold is designed:

Is there anything similar on the market? I'm curious as to how it would perform. This setup would likely require an alternator relocation, which I suppose can be done using the Terminator bracket.

The biggest problem you've got with this is that you are comparing 350ci to 281ci. The ls1 can have short runners and get away with it because they make more low end torque. The 4.6 intake is a good intake for street use because it retains torque and flows decent until around 6k rpm. If you want a short runner and forward facing, go with the edelbrock intake and turn the plenum to face forward.
