This has been buggin me for awhile now so i need some help. I've got a 96 4.6L GT. The only mods right now are exhaust and an air filter. The car has a rough lumpy idle for some reason. The check engine light is on, and i had the codes read and it came up with P1217 or something, O2 sensors not functioning. Not surprising considering i dont have cats anymore. Would this cause the idle problem? or is it something else?

P1217 means Pedal position sensor C circuit intermittent, I don't think that's it, get the codes read and let me know what they real code is. Just saying bad O2 isn't good enough, the code is specific to which side and front or rear.

And in the meantime, check for vacuum leaks, etc.

You might also want to clean your IAC, I cleaned mine, and it really helped with my cold idle.

have you installed any MIL eliminators. your computer gets messed up when you dont have cats, cause the downstream o2 censors get a false reading. And cleaning the MAF is a good idea, helped my rough idle

if checking for vacuum leaks and cleaning your IAC doesnt help, before you touch the MAF, try hitting it lightly on top with a screwdriver. if the idle changes at all, your MAF is toast.
