Any ideas on prep for a plastic bumper?

Is it best to strip all the paint, sand down to plastic or what?

if its a new bumper made from lets say urethane you need to bake it first...this sweats out all of the chemicals in it...then use a adhesive spray which helps the paint stick better (the brand i use is "one choice" advanced plastic bond)
then paint lol, then bake

if you want to repaint a plastic bumper, i would sand it down to the plastic, without taking any plastic away, make it as smooth as possible by going higher and higher in the grit of the sandpaper lol, then maybe the plastic bond and than paint

its just my stock rear bumper, the clearcoat is like gone.

I would probably just sand it down to plastic and sand up to 2k grit.

Atleast it would be somewhat prepped before I took it to maaco.

Any fool can spray paint, that part is easy.

there is much more to spraying a car than that man. its easy to mess up your paint if you dont know what you are doing.
When it's time to spray the paint, you spray the paint. Spraying paint is easy, pull trigger, wave gun back and forth, easy.
And sit back, wait a second, and watch the paint run. It's not that easy.

I didn't say stay in one spot for 5 seconds... I guess it is a good thing someone else painted your car. It is that easy to spray paint, just need a little common sense.

Justin, get it roughed up, sand it with 400 and shoot it. I like to shoot the bumpers off the car, too many compound curves and thing's.

And cleanliness is godliness with paint.

Take your time is the true blue moral of painting. If you rush, your paint job will looked rushed. Painting is somewhat easy, however you have to always keep it moving and keep it level. It's all about painting evenly, especially with a tri-coat color

Go ahead, find someone that never painted before in their life, give them the gun and see how it runs out.

I've painted all my cars myself and by the third car i had done(i buy my cars wrecked and repair them myself to save some money) it actually started coming out decent... Defenitley takes alost of practice to make it look good.. And even more practice + good materials/prep to make it look "factory" good...

i have an hvlp gravity fed cup gun and painted the front of my car myself. i can tell you that there is more to it than just spraying the car. sure, anyone can push a trigger and move their hands back and forth, thats what spray can paint is for. using the right equipment and getting everything correct as far as component mixture for the paint. every car paint is gonna have a hardener that must be correctly mixed, also must be thinned to spray out of the gun. also the gun has several settings as far as air pressure for painting different coatings for a QUALITY paint job. ived worked in the paint business for several years before i started selling cars. i know all about different paints and coatings.

Looks good man i was thinking of doing a paint job from them but doing all the sanding and prep work myself..... I am all about making off the car and putting up sheets of plastic and doing the paint myself. But i have no idea how to paint so i am not sure if i would do a good job or not. But again looks good man like the color

lolol. yeah you have to know what you're doing but it's more time consuming than anything. Other than that it's just practice.
