Maaco

So I figure Maaco cant be that bad if they have a huge chain of shops. My car needs repainted, it small dents and dings, its grimy in the engine the bay and underneath, and the clear coat is peeling off the hood in a major way. IS Maaco worth a shit? If I sanded the paint off and filled the dents and knocked the ones i could out and sprayed a primer on it and had them spray the paint...I need to get this thing lookin right but it doesn't need to be a show car, I just want it to not look like a triffilin red neck mustang with nice rims. I dont know that much about this stuff, I just want it to look good.

I have seen maaco do some great jos with you doing all the prep and them just spraying

Dont know if I would trust them spraying the engine bay unless you were pulling the motor though

that's the trick. you do all the prep. that's the hard part anyway, and takes the most time.

I suppose ill have to learn how to prep. I was lookin at summits paint kits too. Muscle mustangs did a fox with summits paint and it looked great!

I have been looking at the summitt paint too. But not for the mustang, for my toyota p/u. When I do the stang it'll be BAB

if you decide to go to maaco, go around to local car dealers in your area and find out which shop they went to, normally they'll know of the better ones.

The Hugger Orange on this car was done by a Maaco in Oklahoma City. I did the prep work myself, they sprayed, I finished. Also to note, I did the SS stripes myself.

I think it turned out fairly well for a "cheap" paint job. You really do get what you pay for, but you also get what you work for too. Prep it well, then expect to put a little work into it when it's sprayed, and you can wind up with a nice looking car without breaking the bank.

Definitely ask around to find a *good* shop, though. Some of them are really quite terrible.

not always true if you do your legwork and research you can spend less for more quality..

look at my build thread for proof, my old stang was a maaco respray..the vette i have now I wouldn't hesitate ten seconds to take it to them for any repsrays

I spent $1326.25 getting my car repainted.

That included sanding off the spray painted stripes, feathering out all of the peeling paint, fixing a couple little dents, then spraying it with a custom mixed white with silver pearl and metalflakes. He worked with me on the price and came down a little since I told him he could keep it however long he needed (5 weeks, but totally worth the wait). Deals can be found. Maacos can be good, but it depends on the individual shop and how much work YOU put into it. I knew I wouldnt be able to do what my car needed so I had him do it.

Oh, I was going to ask you where you got it painted. Pretty cool. How complicated would things have been, do you think, if you had decided to go another color altogether (black for instance?)
