I assume this is right place for this question. I recently came across a free Flaming river manual steering rack and was thinking about putting it in my car. I'm not sure if it is a good idea or not. What would I need to change other then the steering rack and serpentine belt? Being as my car is strictly a track car, would it make it very hard to turn while on the track? I would probably swap out my peddle box and master cylinder as well for a wilwood setup. If anyone can throw some info or tips my way I would appreciate it.

don't they make 2 ratios? they have a low effort one that takes more turns lock to lock and a faster one that is probably more effort. My friend has one on his car w/ 275's up front and a 408, so its got some weight on the front, from a dead stop its a bitch to turn but at a roll its not bad.

awesome that's what I needed to know, it's a 3-1/2 lock-to-lock. I remember hearing that the power brakes are somehow linked to the power steering... any truth to this?

If you have hydraboost it is. no room for a brake booster so they rigged up this magical box on the fire wall that uses powersteering fluid to help instead. thats about the extent of my knowledge on that.

hmmm... do you know if the stock gt's came with hydroboost? I'm not entirely sure if my car has it or not. I would assume it does

my car is a 94, hmm, it definitely looks more like the first one, so I'm guessing I do have a hydroboost setup which would mean I would need a new master cylinder and would probably end up buying a wilwood setup.

Hydroboost is 96+, it is unlikely that you have that system, unless you've place it there yourself.

What are you trying to accomplish by installing a manual rack? Are you after the weight saving, or do you just want something that feels better than stock?

And you're right, I went out and took a closer look at it and I definitely don't have hydroboost. As far as what I'm trying to accomplish, I'm going for a little bit of both, dropping out the power system should shave a considerable amount off the front of the car. Plus I got the rack for free, it is literally brand new and should give me more response.

If you already have the rack, go ahead and install it. If you didn't I'd recommend going with AGR revalved power rack. It will make things just a little bit easier, plus they can valve their racks with less power assist for better feel.
