meth kit vs aftercooler

anyone have a quick run down of the pros and cons.

The snow stage 2 kit is about 1/4 of the price of an aftercooler kit from vortech, plus the battery relocation.

i would either go with a custom FMIC or the meth. or both depending on how much boost u want to make. forget the aftercooler.

I run a d1sc with the intercooler and a Snow Stage 2 kit.. I did NOT relocate the battery because the kit comes with specific instructions and parts to make your windshield fluid tank into your meth tank... I hardly ever use washer fluid so i did this route mounted the pump inside the inner fender well and run a solenoid. If you run the snow kit i recommend running the solenoid regardless...

I was looking at snow kits earlier, I will still probably relocated the battery either way to free up some space for a msd box.

I was looking at the stage 2 because it seems to be a bit smarter then the stage 1 which just uses a WOT switch and as long as you're at WOT you're getting meth. At least with the stage 2 it takes into consideration the amount of boost you're seeing (would be nice to add an ambient temp. factor to that as well but oh well) so for an extra 100 bucks it seems like a better investment. Then the stage 3 seems overkill to me especially for a weekend cruiser/ making the odd trip to the track.

Also how much meth do you go through typically? Say in an afternoon of spirited driving, and then vs a day at the track?

Doesn't matter how much you use, cause you can fill it with $2 washer fluid lol. The Stage 2 also has the ability to add a little at a time vs the stg 1 that's either all on or off.

my meth kit doesn't start till i think 5/8 lbs of boost and then goes to 23 lbs of boost i can't tell you how much i use because normal driving around town i typically don't get into boost too much. But like Onyx said, $2 washer fluid i mean it's all the same... I went with the stage 2 kit because it has the boost controller that has a start and end point for the meth but you'll see about the same drop for a intercooler and a meth kit. I just went with the snow kit because i got one dirt cheap, and my d1sc kit has an intercooler setup

sweet, window washer fluid is a lot cheaper then that boost juice.

I also like the snow kits vs the AFM ones due to the back yard design of the AFM ones. Looks like I'll be going with the snow kit.

I was doing some research on the meth kits last year and most of the guys I talked to who DD their cars said they filled the tank about once a week when they got gas.

i use boost juice for the reason of having a perfect mixture everytime but you can do the same with washer fluid plus it's not that expensive i think it's like 20 bucks for 5 gallons on ebay..

The difference is -25 or so washer fluid is 30/70 with meth/water where as boost juice is about a 50/50 mix, maybe 49/51 for legal issues. The trade off with the washer fluid is less of an octane boost and more of the cooling effect.

fmic will never get you to ambient but is better then nothing
aftercooler can get you well below ambient but it more $ because of the additional parts
meth will get you below ambient and ALSO adds octane so you have that benefit

if you buy windshield washer fluid go to the companies website and get the MSDS sheets, it will tell you the exact mixture of meth vs water. the lower the temp the better

i buy 5 gallons of 99.9% meth for 25 bucks. i mix it 70/30 meth vs water to get 50/50. you can't mix it by volume as meth and water are not equal. summit also sells boost juice for 4 gallons @ 30 bucks i believe.


aftercooler + meth would be ideal. if you choose one go with the meth

i just put an Alkycontrol.com kit on my car! This kit is awesome! Im running straight meth, no need to worry about mixing, or detergents that would be added to the washer fluids. He has been building kits for several years and is very popular amongst the turbo buick guys. He also has a mustang as well.
Took my car to the dyno 2 weeks ago. B4 the meth intake temps were 94*(ambient was 50ish) and made 500rwhp, final numbers w 5* more timing made 601rwhp with a solid 58* intake temps.
The kit uses my washer fluid tank, all the lines were perfectly cut to size, oh and it comes standard w stainless steel lines, not the cheap plastic ones. He rebuilds all the pumps with the proper seals to flow tests all the pumps. This kit is a maf kit and is progressive controlled. I set mine to come on at 2.5volts, just as the boost is really starting to come on.
I looked at many kits, and im real glad i went with this kit and will highly recommend it to anyone wanting to run meth injection. You can call him and ask him as many questions as you want. Very knowledgeable!!!!

a local chemical supply place. i just did a google search and made a few phone calls. turned out a friend of mine that ows a couple pizza stores buys his cleaning supplies from the same chemical supplier so he just usually grabs me a 5 gallon can when he goes there.

hmmm, i have no idea where I'd even start to look. Is what you get actually called methanol or is it under a different name?
