Hey y'all,

I was wondering which sensor was specifically measuring for misfires? Or I guess which sensor would be picking that up? When I first got my car, there was a misfire that kept moving when cleared on the ODB. I asked here (I think), and was told the sensor was bad, so i replaced all the coils and that fixed the issue. I was planning on engine swapping so I didn't really care. This is still the plan, but depression makes me move at a glacial pace, so I once again have a misfire. I would like to replace the sensor so instead of buying 8 new coils, I can fix the specific one. Thank you so much!

keep in mind
bran new plugs can Faile right out of the box along with coils
you would need to isolate and trouble shoot a misfire
it could also be an injector
try swapping plugs and coils around find out what cylinder is the misfire
same as injector

In addition to what John said, give us a complete list of codes and make sure the plugs are tigh as they have a habit of backing out and shooting out the hood.

There’s no specific sensor that records misfires, that data is collected by the ecu collecting data from the o2 sensors, cam and crank sensors.

It's a tough one at times when you dont have the right equipment to check
I just went through this on my 97 truck
Ended up with 4 bad plugs out of 8 new in a box
I even had new coils to replace the bad ones

sorry for the lag; depression.
I forgot you guys are fucking deectives. When I first got the car, the code was p0301, we cleared it, then it became p0307. I swapped all the coils, drove and then the check engine light went off. So A month or so ago, I started to feel how it felt when I first got the car, lo and behold, a while later the check engine light goes on. Pretty proud to pay enough attention that i caught it.
Thank you for letting me know all this! The check engine light went off but I don't believe it lol so where should I start? My brainn says tightening plugs and seeing if that solves it; then moving on to trying to isolate it.

I'm sorry to hear that man, I hope next time it's easier for you. When I work on art or clothes, It's a lot easier to make due with what I have; cars is a little harder because you just can't do certain things without the right equipment.

Quality Coil on plug coils for the modulars have always been a pain. Seams like the original factory coils dated from 97-2003,msd,accel and cheap ebay/amazon coils fail to often and good quality replacements are newer original Ford.

a really tough one is when you are shooting in the dark and there are no check engine light
it works but its not picking up a fault
on some vehicle's its not enough to trip the check engine light
this was also part of a problem i was having with my 97 fi50
so those are the ones that will drive you crazy and you need a top-of-the-line scanner
got to watch for those to

It sounds stupid but I always grab things like iac valves, maf sensors and cop’s for our cars at boneyards to have on hand. Can’t beat oem even if it’s old. I have a parts bin with this kind of stuff hanging out.

And if anyone didn’t know, Denso was the supplier for oem coils. If you’re going to buy new, Denso. They’re much cheaper than motorcraft.

I guess its worth mentioning here,

If there is any moisture in the spark plug holes or inside the coil boot, all kinds of unwanted-ness comes about and its a tough one to track down. I always find it comical over on 2facedbooked when modular owners be saying "I spay washed the engine now it wont run....what do i do"

I appreciate everyone so much. I had replaced them with denso. I think 96blak, you might be right on the money. My car still has no hood, and I moved to oregon. I was expecting to engine swap, so I didn't give a fuck; but that's now coming back to bite me in the ass. FUCK. Well at least I know I don't need to spend more money. I'm so frustrated lol depression dragging things on brings on new issues too. I appreciate y'all so much, if this build ever gets completed, everyone who helped is getting their name written in the car. Take a village to build a car or whatever they say :)
