more Lincoln Mark questions

my cousin is loaning me his lincoln until one of my POSes is up and running.

so, i figured I'd look into some minor issues for him.

#1 his RPM tach doesnt work. just sits at 1500RPMs and doesnt move at all.
#2 his compressor runs occasionally while driving - is this normal?
#3 his battery light is on, but its a brand new battery.


Anyone on here a lincoln guy? :-D I can probably fix the battery and compressor junk, but the RPM problem has me baffled.

I had a 1995 mark 8, the compressor going on and off sometimes is normal, but if its very frequent there's probably an issue with the air suspension

a mark with a problem with the suspension? Nooooo waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay..........

Check the alt to see if its charging. vatozone will be your friend there.

Your most likely talking about the 93-96 Mark VIII's, 93's were factory freaks- they were the fastest of all the 93-98 marks. And they actually came with 280 hp 285 ft lbs stock, and the LSC's with the hid's had 290 and 295. Anyways nothing to do with it but I know a ton about them so i had to write a little somethin lol. These marks are notorious for air ride problems, I'd check the alternator, then see if you can bring it to a mechanic to have the solenoids and air compressor checked out. Does the car slam to the floor when its off or sitting for awhile or is it just the compressor going on randomly?

I have a neighbor that had one he drove for years till the air ride went out. IT has now sat in the same place for at least 3 yrs. Body is in great shape and he took pretty good care of his motor just doesn't want to spend the $$$ for the air-ride and doesn't want to sell it for a loss so it sits. I consider it my back up motor if mine goes I will see if he will sell it...

it wont slam to the ground. Just the compressor runs for a while at start up and kicks on randomly while driving.


any ideas on the RPM tach?

I would probably start simple and just pull the gauges and check connections first after lookin at ALL the fuses.

The air suspension is ridiculously expensive to replace, like 400 per side just for the bags :O I'm not too sure about the rpm tach. Maybe try disconnecting the battery and reconnecting it? Honestly not too sure about that.
