i wasnt comfy doing it myself at home either, until i had to remove the transmission to fix it. turns out it wasnt so hard in the long run, and with a few simple steps i coulda replaced the clutch. but yeah, if you arent comfortable doing it then dont attempt it. good luck with the motor mounts and let us know how it goes.

well somewhat good news on this end.......i felt like an idiot when i finally got the starter off today...i used a small ratchet w 13mm attachment and stuck it through the small opening in the fender well and got the top bolt to the starter...had it off in 10 mins flat.....after a bunch of finagling with 2x4's and different jacks and some hammering we got the old/decrepid passenger side motor mount out...but here came the tricky part...couldnt get the new one in.....stud is about less than 1/8 too long to get up over the brace into the slot where it bolts in...so pissed....we ran out of day light..so we called it quits.......any ideas on how to get that last bit in there? so close yet so far.....thanx for stickin with me here guys...

any chance you can get some pics? its been awhile since i did mine. if not, is that the highest the motor will lift? for mine, i had to remove the strut brace so the engine could lift up a little higher. since the transmission is still bolted to the engine, you could also try lifting the transmission a little to get some more room, provided its not already hitting the tunel.

SUCCESS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! we ended up jacking the tranny up till it hit the tunnel...then jackd up the motor as far as it would go...but still had no room to budge the new mount in....we were still shy about an 1/8 inch...then ahah...lets take the mount apart, slip in the plate, then put in the top part of the mount! piece of cake got it in...just gotta finish tighting some bolts down tomorrow when we have light..put the starter back on..midpipe...lower her down and shes done.....then off to the shop next week for a clutch! so excited!!!

will do after the new clutch is put in...cant drive it now darn it....and to top it off i cant get my exhaust set up back right...we had to take it off remember to get to the mount...well we put the hpipe back in and the catback...as tight as 3 different people can turn a ratchet, and yet it still sounds like im running open headers on the drivers side..what gives? might try taking it all back off and try putting it back on again....geezus.....i miss driving my baby :(

the drivers side is the ball and socket joint, right? make sure the flange is not un-even when you guys are tightening the nuts on that, and also make sure you didnt loosen the studs on that side. if the studs came out a little, it would prevent that side from sealing like it should and would cause the exhaust leak.

drove her up the street to the gas station today....first time in almost 2 weeks since the clutch incident and the motor mounts....shifts feel smoother thanx to the mount.....but she idled like hell when i would come to a stop, sounds like crap, and hardly any backpressure to keep the rpms high enough, and my check engine light came on....hopefully she can make the 15-20 min drive to the mustang shop tomorrow....shes gettin the clutch and gettin my exhaust situation fixed and hopefully she'll be top notch when i pick her up friday morning :thumb:

lets hope so! the CEL was prob to tell you that you are running lean, which you really arent but since you have that "little" ;) exhaust leak before the o2 sensor, its reading all that extra air and saying its lean, so its dumping even more gas into the engine making run even crappier. good luck on getting it back soon tho! what clutch are you getting?

for some reason my car goes thru transmission mounts like candy. i have to replace it about once a year or 1 1/2 yrs. been looking for a poly mount for some time now, but they dont make it for 96-98 cars, only for the 94/95 and 99-04. im wondering how you installed the mounts in wrong, they can pretty mcuh only go in one way. maybe you forgot a bolt...or two :comando:

and dont worry about your clutch. my friend managed to blow his up, or at least it looked like it blew up. had replaced it not too before that, but he showed up to my friends shop on a towtruck saying how it couldnt go in gear. we threw it on the lift and as soon as we did, we could see pieces of his clutch coming out from the vent at the bottom of the transmission. he had managed to shred off one entire side of the clutch, so it was metal on metal.

I have no idea how you could have put it in wrong, were they aware that you wanted it replaced before hand? How well do you know them? Unless when you separated it you put the rubber upside down, I don't even know if you could do that.
