The 6AL was on my car when I bought it, but i took it off b/c the guy had the wiring all rigged up. I found out I can buy an MSD harness specifically for the TFI ford coils and 6AL, pn# 8874. I also downloaded the instructions from MSD's website, and it says the "magnetic Pickup" is not used, so wha would i do with he plug?

im ordering the harness this week, but is there anything else i need to know before installing?

also, i know i have asked this before from some of you, but where did everyone mount theres? i want mine hidden, but have been told its less efficient to run it far away from the coil, so i am considering the drivers side plastic firewall.

any help or suggestions welcome

I saw in MM&FF(April 2008) where they mounted one in the trunk on the plastic lining. Maybe somthing to think about because that way it is out of the way and not seen and stays dry and cool. I think when I get my motor done I will do the same.

Although I am not sure about haveing to mount it near the coil. I know in the mag they did upgrade to a bigger guage wire.

thats what i've heard, just go a larger gauge and it can go in the trunk, but i've still heard if you do that it still wont be nearly as efficient. I want it in my trunk, but would have to modify the harness and route the heavier guage wire.

I'm thinking of calling MSD and asking about mounting it in the trunk to see what they say

:dunno:

in that article you speak of, they even said "we asked if it would cause any hesitation/ communication problems
and were told no." plus if a magazine wrote a how to on something and made it inefficient, do you think they
would post it in their mag.? i say put it in the truck, upgrade the wiring and be done with it.

To extend the wires...go up a gauge. its says RIGHT IN the MSD Instructions. I have ZERO issues.

what gauge wire should i use if going from the trunk?

14 gauge i believe is what is on the factory harness. You should run minimum 12 gauge fine strand (highest quality you can find) or 10. Bigger won't hurt.

Do 96 GTs need an ignition box? I mean an MSD one

or is it more for 5.0s?

i'm sure they make them for 4.6's. any car can benefit from one. it basically gives you the spark you need at high rpms and a stronger spark all the time.
