In all honesty, the 4.6 and 5.4 the won't be able to tell visually that they are different.

how many people do you know are really going to look for subtle differences like that. most people will never know unless you told them

Find a junk motor, shortblock if possible. PI headed 5.4's are new enough they still fetch a premium. It's cheaper to pick up PI heads for 200-300 bucks, and a shortblock for 500 or so.

All you really want it a block without extra ventilation and a crank that is useable anyway. You'll want good rods and pistons, 2618 forged pistons=less slap and longer life. No sense it paying for stuff you're not gonna use.

thats my plan. ill go junkyardin inm the next couple weeks

I'd look for a panel van, from like the cable company or something. Those are usually pretty well maintained, and probably less likey to be abused than a pickup.

the place i used to go to all the time has alot of shortblocks/engine assemblies already removed. i picked up a 94-95 5.0L for the ole F-150 for 100 buck. that was erything, accesories and all.

little johns junkyard. its now under new ownership(SUCKS) but yea my dad grew up with the owners son who took over the bi'ness. that 5.0 was out of a sn95 too. never knew it till i saw a pic of the 94-94 intake manifold but it was. that engine is still in my 86 f-150. cept me and my dad overhauled the block, new bearings, new keith black pistons, bored .30 over, all kind of goodies. fully balanced rotating assembly

Yup buy a bare block. get it sonic tested, and oversize your cylinders accordingly. high mileage 5.4 litre blocks will probably have some bore distortion because of their longer stroke and greater rod angle, it takes its toll on the thrust face.

im still thinkin on what i wanna do. a stroker kit for a 4.6 is reasonable but the 5.4 is a torque monster...it makes stock what most full bolt on PI swapped npi's make

A stroker kit is kind of a waste, and if you wanna drive it while you build the new bullet, you'll still need another block. May as well get the factory stroker.

getting a 5.4 would be 100x better than stroking your 4.6.

Ha ha, I have so many redneck jokes on the tip of my tounge now, lol. Rednecks do have their own type of ricer math though. But you can actually go to Dynojet, SCT, and Mustang Dyno's sites and they will gove you a list of dealers in your area.
