well, i have coilovers on stock struts in the front. when i hit a big bump or dip in the road i hear a pretty loud bang, almost like the car is bottoming out, but its not. i looked at everything under the car and nothing is hitting the ground, and the tires are not hitting anything either.

is my strut bottoming out? or is my control arm hitting my k frame?

has anyone else with a very low car having this problem? should i just put some quality struts on?

unless its strictly a race car there is really no need for fox length struts. just get the part thats made for the car.

I would just pick the car up a bit. Better than blowing out shocks.

i actually want the car to be lower, so theres no way i'm going to raise it up.

i heard from some people that i could keep it this low with fox style struts.

why would it need to be a race car to have fox style struts?

Or just buy legit struts and not worry about it

fox struts are shorter, so they work better on lower cars. when you lower the car, you are only using the bottom section of the stock shock's travel, versus the full travel of the fox shock.

you still need a higher rate shock, even at fox length. the stock shocks are set up for the stock spring rate.
whose coilovers?

i'm not talking about buying stock fox struts.

i am about to buy some new name brand struts (not sure which ones yet) so i figured if i could buy ones that work better with lowered cars then i would buy those.

coilovers are mmr

Fox struts work well on heavily lowered sn95's cuz the mounting bracket on the bottom of the strut is about an inch up from the bottom of the strut. The sn95 struts have the mounting bracket at the very bottom of the strut. Therefore they work much better on a heavily lowered sn95 car.

If you need pics, get on rockauto.com and bring up pics of the fox strut and the SN strut side by side intwo separate windows. then compare the mount point on the bottom of the strut. You'll notice the difference on the fox strut i mentioned earlier

hope this helps

i understand the difference. just wondering why someone said use fox if its strictly a race car.

i guess i just need to call mmr and see if my coil over sleeve will even fit around a fox strut and if so what brands

I'd say you should call the coilover manufacturer, but you're kinda SOL since MMR is a piece of shit company that doesn't know anything about anything.
Call the company in China that made the coilovers for them.
See if they can recommend a shock brand, length, and rate that would work well with your coilover kit, spring rate, vehicle weight, and intended use.

Rosetta Stone FTW!!!

i have no idea why they said that. cuz that dont make any sense to me. it would be a better ride quality and would perform better cuz you wouldnt ever bottom the struts out. so i dunno why they said that

Really? interesting. When you think about it if you lower a mustang 2+ inches like mine is and a few othere on here are a fox style strut makes a lot of sense for them. I lowered mine about 2.5 inches if not a little more and the SN strut bottoms out every once in a while on hard unseen bumps. So im going to fox struts after i get my dyno tune taken car of

I lowered my car last weekend with Eibach Sportlines and put FOX LENGTH lakewood 50/50's on the rear.. I can tell a diff for the better over Sn shocks.. Now I just need to swap out the front's..

If you wanna go super low, you ought to look into an AirRide setup from Ridetech. Your car seems pretty tits, just make it that much more titsy.
