My daily driver, '99 VW New Beetle

This will be my thread to chronicle the progress of my ride. My father unfortunately passed away in late 2010 and I inherited his VW. He had only owned it for 8 months and loved every day with it. He called it his "Tiger Bug". However, since already have the fleet of Mustang GTs and the Z71 it has just been sitting there. I considered selling it but its a piece of my father I can see everyday. Well, recently we had enough and decided it was go time. I changed the oil, put in a new battery, added some fuel stabilizer/fresh fuel and after a few tries, it started right up!! I'm going to register it

The plastic engine cover is cracked and the plastic dipstick tube is also cracked.

Even though it has been sitting on cement for a few years, it needed a bath VERY badly:

Next steps:

1) remove fugly wood grain trim
2) remove remaining stickers from exterior
3) swap radio out for my Alpine in the Z71
4) install speakers in rear location

Future plans:

1) new headlights with HIDs
2) tint all exterior lights
3) black vinyl for roof
4) darker tint
5) Audi A8 18's
6) lowering springs
7) skid plate
8) Turbo S bumpers

After the Audi wheels, lowering springs, black vinyl roof and Turbo S bumpers, it'll look basically like this:

Just gonna be low and slow unless I get my way and swap a R32 motor in. Then it'll be a fun little DD for sure!!

Thanks guys!! He was a character, and is sorely missed.. The car is pretty fun to drive, but i wish it was a 5-speed. Not having cruise control kinda sucks and theres no armrest in the center console either, otherwise I have little to complain about. Handles ok for what it is too.

I've thought about doing some strut bags for fun, but thats down the road right now. I will be installing a custom European front plate that says ROFLMFAO and ditching the flower in the vase on the dash haha

i'm glad someone else likes custom new beetles lol!! i cant lie when i see one with nice wheels and stance i def do turn my head. that yellow one you have posted is just about perfect!! audi wheels look great on beetles!!

Thats cool you got to keep your dads ride. My dad still owed a bunch on his truck when he passed so we had to let it go back to the bank. I still have the personalized plated from it though and its where my Hell Yes I Street Race plate frame came from. Definitely keep us posted with the upgrades, Im sure itll be pretty sweet looking in the end!
