Figured i'd share what I've been up to. Doing a lot of mini projects for the cobra project in between class and working on the bmw. This is my latest. The 98 fuel system sucks quite plainly. It's a two speed voltage system that uses later model pumps in a return system. It's a bit of an interesting thing to decipher what your options are. Many people just drop an aviator, focus, or GT pump into the stock assembly. Personally I don't want to pull it back apart for when it sucks the housing dry or I tap out the system. So I decided to pick up a terminator hat assembly since they are so cheap and modify it till my hearts content.

Being that the terminators use returnless fuel systems, I obviously need to devise a return port on the tank or hat. Along with that I need to have return style fuel rails. I've modified my stock rails to fit a mach 1 (C head) intake. However I don't believe it will fit underneath the elbow on the blower as the regulator is right there. Even if it does, I would rather just update the entire fuel system to support whatever I want. So this is what I started with.

I changed the pigtails over and pinned it to match the 98 body harness. I may have to change this again though in order to go to a heavier gauge wiring. For now it's just pinned to drop into a 98.

The wiring colors and location on the hat is actually the same between 6 years. The factory 98 plug used only 4 wires total and had one pigtail. The terminator had 7 total. The extra wiring was for an FPDM. (fuel pump driver module). It's something I won't be needing.

Another major difference between the two assemblies is the inclusion of a PPRV in the terminator hat. Since my car doesn't have one I needed to remove it as it causes issues in higher RPM situations. It also likes to go bad.

I was going to simply add a return fitting, delete the PPRV with metal 3/8" line and submersible 30r10 gates line. But after reading, researching, and going over the options, I've decided to modify the hat to include two seperate -6an fittings off two seperate 3/8" tubes essentially giving me a feed line per pump. From there, -6an pushlock hose to a Y block that will be -8an. I plan to run new fuel line front to rear. -8an feed and -6an return. I've yet to decide on what I want to do for a return fitting. It may just go into nipple on the side of the tank. We will see. Either way this where I stopped. It's torn apart waiting on me to order fittings from Jegs or Summit racing. And I still need to figure out what to do about the baffles in the stock tank. That's a whole other project thread in itself. I'll update as my headache progresses.

why aren't you just switching to a returnless style since both the fuel pump area and fuel rails necessitate it?

Returnless is less efficient. Car is being built for eventually getting a crusher whipple. It needs to support 800 horsepower. That's the plan anyway lol
