i'm trying to get my catback off and i'm having a problem with the slip joints ( i think thats what they're called)

it's magnapack catback, i got all the u bolt off and i can get them off the rubber hangers, but i just can't get the joint where the u-bolt were to come apart. i sprayed so much pb blaster on them, tryed to get them to open up with a flat screw drive. not mangaling it but just trying to get them to open. i need to get the pieces apart so i can get it over the rear end, and hopefully sold.

the joint on one side has slits on it so the other piece slides into it. i'll try and get a pic of it tonight. i;m also going to try and heat it up with a torch to see if that will work, as i didn't have my torch with me yesterday.

any suggestions on how to get them apart would be great. just remember that i'm doing this in my garage floor off of jack stands and not from a lift.

Thanks
joe

PB Blaster + Torch = Fire :hammer:

Actually heating it up will cause the metal to expand not contact. Just hit it w/ a BFH and it will come lose.

as a last resort cut it about 1-2in back from the muff so it can be spliced back together with another piece o pipe and clamps or welded

unbolt your rear shocks and lift the rear from the axle, then put the body on jackstands. Lower the rear dowb as far as it will go, you MIGHT be able to slip it all out in one piece.

atleast I was able to with my stock catback

If it had a U-bolt clamp on it, chances are the pipes were dented into eachother. know what I mean? It would look like this (( You'd be bettter off probably just cutting them

thats the thing i don't want to cut it, cause i want to sell it, since i already bought another cat back.

here the thing, for the turbo install i have to cut the ball and socket type connect that the cat back has to connect to the turbo piping. i'm not hackin up a stainless steel catback, i worked to hard to buy it and think it's a shame to cut it up. so i bought another catback from a member here, that i have no problem bringing my sawzall too.

and i would rather pull the magnapacks system apart and sell it to someone, and put that money to something else.

so does anyone have any other suggestions.

and i haven't had a chance to heat them up and try to pull it apart, i had to work late.
and i don't have to worry about my carpet cause the catback isn't on the hangers it's just hanging over the rear and laying on the floor.
and i know PB Blaster will catch on fire.

Thanks
Joe
