Sound and power are a non-issue really....if money is no object, you need to shop for FITMENT. Shorties should bolt up to your existing x-pipe. However, if you're willing to modify or swap that out, long tubes are the best bet over shorties. I had good luck with MAC longtubes...but I'm more patient that most. As far as sound, they'll all sound great. I had mac longtubes with a prochamber pipe and flowmaster 40 series on my car when it was a stock 5.0 long block and it sounded GREAT.

I have MAC long tubes on now. Ive had shorties also. Longtubes move the O2 sensor further away from the engine and the HEGO Delay in the EEC must be changed. When I went with shorties every thing was fine. Longtubes not so fine had idle issues. Also my MACs have individual flanges for each primary they all shift or move so installing takes some pulling pushing etc. My exhaust MAC longtubers ceramic coated, MAC pro chamber and Dynomax cat back and no cats. Sound is like late 60s early 70s muscle car. Not as loud as 2 chamber Flowmaster. I also have no resonating that some have.

Our 1995 Cobras run the CBAZA strategy and J4J1 calibration in the EEC. It is actually titled HEGO -Exhaust Pulse Delay. It is FN1351 PID. At 700, 900,1300 and 1500RPM there is a number that is the delay in revs per second from when the fuel change is made untill the HEGO sensor sees this change.
