So last week I had a bit of a mishap with the 'Stang. Merging onto the highway from an off ramp to head over the bridge to work, started changing lanes @ roughly 70 km/h hit a patch of ice/snow/slush and the rear end kicked out. Fishtailed a few times side to side, finally got it under control, but slid into the concrete barrier at about 30 km/h. Not too much physical damage on first glance, impact occurred on the passenger front corner of the car, so the head light assembly is broken/loose in behind, the bumper is misaligned and the paint is scraped off the front of the bumper where it rubbed before impact, even the hood line looks ever so slightly raised, hope I didn't bust up the support too bad.
Car was drive-able after impact and didn't feel too bad at all so I continued on to work. Leaving at the end of the day for work, backing out of the parking stall, steering wheel turned to almost full lock counter clockwise and as I'm backing up the right front does what I can only describe as a "hump" at the same specific point in the wheel rotation every time. It's most pronounced with the steering wheel near full lock counter clockwise, it's less pronounced near full lock clockwise and even less noticeable but still there when backing straight up. It's important to note that this ONLY happens when in reverse gear. Forward gears 1-5 the car is all good, alignment doesn't appear off at all, nor does the car wander.
First guess is control arm, or steering linkage from the control arm to the steering rack but to be honest I don't know a hell of a lot about how these cars steering/suspension set ups are engineered from the factory, just haven't read into it that much.
I've filed a claim with insurance as I'm sure my deductible will be less than what it will cost to get 'er fixed, but just want to have a better idea of how badly I mess her up. Pic attached after parking before heading across the street to the office.
