That is part of your smog system i think. What year is your car? If its 94-95 it is. if its 96-98 you might want to way for someone else to chime in.

Did you have the check engine light come on your dash? if so, how did you disable it?

Agreed its part of the smog pump setup, i threw all mine away, and no, i didnt get any check light, but there's 2 small plastic pipes that need connecting together to prevent them sucking air in once its removed.

That is part of the smog (thermactor) pump hose assembly used for emissions control. To my knowledge, removal of that will not cause a CEL. However, removal of the EGR will cause a CEL, engine idle troubles, and a decrease in fuel mileage.

Out of curiosity - the EGR appears to be hooked to a rubber line rather than a bung on the header with OEM stainless steel tube. What is the rubber line attached to?

For better understanding here are more pics.

BTW i took the thermactor off and take it to the shop to weld it shut. :dunno:

That is part of the smog pump system like stated above. It pumps air down to the cats to help heat them up and will not throw a CEL if it is not hooked up. It is said though that if you still have cats and that is not hooked up it will shorten the life of the converters. The side that is crimped shut should be hooked up to a metal tube that runs down to the cats. Mine is not hooked up like yours and I haven't had any problems with it at all.

Your car will run like hell and buck and surge without O2's. It won't idle for shit either.

Do you ever have anything positive, helpful, or value-added to say?

I told him he has to fix that ASAP.

That is a huge fire hazard. There is a reason Ford had the EGR connected to a metal line and not rubber :nonono:

Gotta get that fixed dude, seriously.

I dont think its as big of a deal as you are making it out to be... if you look carefully, you will see that its not even close to being attached to the header.... the tube should be running to the #3 primary tube... but it goes up towards the #1 tube

So the rubber hose circled below is the one that should be stainless steel, instead of rubber right?
