I had heard that a highly modded or a forced induction car needs to be retuned every year or 2 to keep the tune spot on. While talking to my tuner, he said that it isn't needed and a tune cant "get off" on a vehicle unless something has been changed or isn't working correctly within the setup itself. Anyone here know any info on this?

Every year or two? no...

Unless you`re putting tons of kms on the car not much is going to change.Your computer should be able to make minor changes as time progresses.

So unless you want to waste your money and tune it every year... I wouldnt retune it unless you notice something is up or you change something.

Just my opinion. Some of the other guys that are more boost experienced than me may have other opinions.

Also if your tuner says you dont need to retune it every year or two, Id believe him...

Im sure he`d love your money but if he says no its not necessary then he`s loosing money. Pretty sure he`s telling the truth.

i'd suggest getting it on the dyno every year or two, but a full tune? no. just a way to toss money in the trashcan.

most dyno shops have "dyno days" where they let you get 3 passes for $30.00 (or whatever) -- maybe even free pizza ;)

just go to those once a year and get the sniffer on there to make sure everything is properly running :)

a tune nor a dyno is neccessary unless something changes

[h=3]Retuning Required[/h] Retuning is required under any of the following circumstances

  • MAF sensor changes - all changes must be made in the MAF transfer ONLY
  • Fuel Injector changes - all changes must be made in the injector parameters ONLY
  • Fuel Pressure changes - all changes must be made in the injector parameters ONLY
  • Cylinder Head Replacement - spark table and peak load function must be updated
  • Camshaft Replacement - idle air control MAY need to be updated
  • Base Timing changes - Ignition timing (spark table) and injector timing must be updated
  • Fuel Grade changes, ex: E-85 or 87 Octane - AFR parameter and/or spark table must be updated
