Also 347>351. Much lighter rotating assembly. I believe afr 185's are too small. Id go TW. 170 before i go afr 185's. TW FAC 190's get my vote tho

Not exactly. A 347 is the stroke limit of a 302 block, a 351 can be stroked well beyond 400 Cubic Inchs. The power potential of the 351 block far exceeds the max limit of the 302 being the 347

I agree fully. But a 347 vs 351 was brought up. not a 302 based stroker vs 351 based stroker. or a 347 vs a 400+ CI.
That being said. If you go for a 400+ci motor you better get heads to support it.

My next build which is years and years away is going to involve an aftermarket 8.2" block. and going to be around ~370ci give or take.

your future build is what i am thinking down the road. I would like to get a really good rotating assembly and head setup than when i split my block form spraying the hell out of it i will go back with a aftermarket block and spray it even more or boost it!

I am not trying to e-race a dyno or anything like that, i am looking for a good H/C/I setup to reach a power level...My S-trim put down 7.80s in the 1/8 with 400rwhp i am wanting to be in that same area all motor thats it! My budget is whatever i dont mind dropping 2 grand on the H/C/I i just want to know a good setup to get me where i want to me on motor, even if i got to drop a thousand to get me to a 347 than do H/C/I!....My goal is high 7s on motor in the 1/8th and 7 flats on the spray!

You can make right around 400HP with a NA 347. That car would have made 400HP with better heads.

You say real good rotating assembly. Good plan but... What happens when you split the block and the crank gets phucked. or what not?

CS1177R

whats the specs on that thing and where can i find one?

And if the rotating assembly is damaged when i split the block than o well just bad luck i guess, i hope to have the money for a stronger block before i have that kind of a problem but you never know...I am only a weekend sprayer every once and a while maybe a bottle every month or two so it should last a while...a guy around here had a 347 with a cast eagle crank and sprayed a 150 to 175 shot all the time, the car lasted over 2 years as a DD til the crank split!

survivalmotorsports.com used to list it, email them and see if they still carry it.

I would not get a Trickflow top end kit unless your building a mild street car (mine puts down 300 rwhp with my bolt-ons and on the stock bottom end) and I plan on going way bigger.

I'd say get either CNC ported Trickflow heads or some AFRs, either a TFS2 cam or a custom ground cam, and either a Trickflow R or a Holley intake manifold and spray it.

My friend runs a 347 with ported Trickflow heads, custom cam (very simular to the TFS2 cam), and a Holley intake and a 100 shot and runs 10.6's in the 1/4 on spray and puts down just over 400 rwhp N/A.

A 347 with ported heads, nice cam, and a good intake WILL put down 400 rwhp.
