Here's my situation:
I have a '94 5.0, no mods except for K&N filter & smog delete. Car acts like the timing is off, very hesitant to rev, very sluggish, etc... When you first start the car, you can rev it & it responds great, but by the time the RPMs drop & you rev it again, it is extremely sluggish, doesn't wanna take fuel.. I don't know what the problem is.

Things I have done:
set timing at 12 w/spout out.
checked mass air & throtle position sensor
it has good fuel pressure,
good fire to the plugs,
no vacuum problems that i know of

ANY suggestions??? I'm young & new to 'Stangs. :dontknow:

thanks for any help
Kc

When you say good fuel pressure did you only check it at idle or when revving?

did you clean the maf and iac. k&n style filters can deposit oil on the maf. do you still have the stock style cat? it may be clogged.

no i did not clean maf or iac,but i backprobed the maf and worked the throtle and it tested good,i don't think idle air control is my problem considering that the problem is taking fuel. the cats screens are busted out so no clogs.

No, you shouldn't. Just checking. Removing EGR can cause these cars to run like crap.

okay, thanks... my smog pump locked up, so I took it off & got a shorter belt. should I try to get a new smog pump, or plug the hose, or remove the smog system altogether??
What are the pros/cons ??

Damn, i thought we had another kansas member, oh well.
As far as the smog system goes, chuck it, all. If your compressor is locked up, then the system isn't going to do anything.
Remove the pump, remove the lines, all the way back to your h-pipe, and block off that tube. It offers slight weight reduction, and
makes the engine bay look cleaner.

I say clean the MAF as well! I had a revving problem. Took the MAF off and thought it was clean. Cleaned it anyways and all my problems went away. If that doesn't work. Pull the codes from the computer. It could be the Intake charge temp sensor or the coolant temp sensor or the O2 sensors. You see where I'm going with this.

check the vacuum lines off the intake/throttle body, when my egr vacuum got disconnected, my car ran like crap. Make sure you have vacuum going into the fender first, then into the egr...red to red...from the throttle intake tree...Good Luck
