I'm getting my car painted next week so I wanted to get prepared and buy some good washing/detailing/waxing stuff. I want to keep the new clean paint look so I was wondering if someone could point me in the right direction of what to buy and where(special wash/wax, washing/polishing rags, all that good stuff). I don't need anything over the top just some simple stuff for a newbie.

Im sure the body shop will tell you but dont wax it for about 2 months. You want the paint to be able to breath and cure before sealing it up.

Chemical Guys is high quality stuff. A dual action polisher would make it quick work too.

make sure to ask your painter how long it will take the clear to fully cure, before you can wax it.
different paints take longer to cure.
