No Spark

just installed a 6al, car ran fine, then i had to get a helicoil put in my head, which entailed me taking the whole top end off basically. Get everything together, with new injectors and car starts up, idles for about 4 minutes, dies and now im not getting a spark at all. My pickup coil is good inside the Dizzy, and my coil is a new MSD 8227 which is fine, Im suspecting my ICM which im being told is a dealer fix only since its in the steering column apparantly. anyone have any ideas? or am i Dicked :TY:

How do you KNOW the MSD coil is fine? MSD products tend to fail extremely often.

i took the coil off and went to schucks, and they did a continuity test on a brand new coil and my coil and they were the same. so to be sure he grabbed an OEM coil and tested that as well and they were fairly close in the continuity readings, so im fairly sure that my coil is fine. Im all but certain my ignition control module went out but idk for sure

Glad to hear you found the problem and it was simple.

Did they perform a continuity test or resistance test? If you are new to this kind of electronic testing it's easy to confuse terms. With continuity it is either "yes" or "no". The circuit is either complete or it is not. With resistance you get an actual reading in "ohms" of how much electrical resistance a component, or circuit, has. An ignition coil is usually, or at least the old school ones, around 1,200 ohms.

You may also want to look to see if you pinched a wire somewhere on reassembly that caused the fuse to blow. :thumb:

hey thanks man, yeah it was a continuity test so thats how i confirmed it. Im not really sure i may have pinched a wire IDK for sure, i traced the wiring back all the way basically and it didnt look broke or pinched so im thinking maybe it was just a fluke possibly
