I did not know exactly where to post this topic because it is sort of a problem I am having with my car, but i has to do with regular maintenance. The other day I did a complete tuneup on my car, oil change, fuel filter, wires, coil packs, pcv valve, MAF cleaning, spark plugs, and air filter cleaning, (coolant not done yet lol). In addition to this I decided I would take it a step further and use a 3M complete DIY tune up kit on the car. The kit included a can of manifold cleaner which ran into the car while it idled, fuel system cleaner to put in the gas tank, and throttle body cleaner. The good thing is that after doing the tuneup my check engine light went off and that my car no longer hesitates in the upper rpm range (prbly thanks to the spark plugs), though the bad thing is that my car is idling funny now. Whenever I drive my car and then let off the gas or put it in neutral the rpms will come down very slowly, then sit at about 1500 rpm for about 10 seconds, then come all the down to normal idle speed. Tonight I took the MAF back off and the air filter, rechecked them, then I checked the connections on the intake side and the pcv valve. I did not find anything funny in these areas so I looked at this book that I have to see if it could enlighten me. I went to the throttle body section of the book and it said that throttle body cleaners should not be used on the 4.6L engines because it WILL affect engine performance. :BangHead: ,,,, Right now I am kicking myself in the butt and I am assuming this is my problem. I was wondering if anybody else has had a similar problem, or if anybody can just help me out here. Any advice is appreciated, thank you

Have cleaned mine w/ a product safe for teflon lined TB's. No problems after 2 yrs. Need to do the batt. disconnect/ECM recalibrate thing afterwards though.

"Keep Alive Memory" it's the ECU's learned memory that adjusts for variances in the tune from world conditions. I.e. If you install new L/T headers or a better flowing Throttle body, your Idle & your Decay rate may be affected resulting in a greater "Hang" time when you rev your engine or a slightly higher idle. The KAM adjust to compensate for the changed.

"Edit" I forgot to tell you how to do it, lol. Just unplug your battery for 5 minutes. Although, it may or may not affect anything depending on who dirty/clogged your TB is.

lol I was expecting some type of intricate "KAM" procedure. Although I dont think that is my problem because when I did all of the MAF cleaning and stuff I had the battery unplugged anyway.

Guys after fiddling around with multiple things for who knows how long, I finally fixed the problem, it was the IAC valve. The valve was filthy dirty and I shot it with some carb cleaner, after that I drove it around it seems like it even runs better. :headbang:

there really shouldn't be too much play in your throttle cable, there is slight play in it but there wont be too much.

The color of your car.

Broke down shot gun style:

The picture in your signature has a nice car in it. I would like to see more of that car. Could you please post more pictures of that car.

Laugh Out Loud.
