I replaced my stock headlights on my 98 vert because they were badly yellowed and one was cracked. I went with oem style replacements. The were cheap but look like decent quality. However, they have this metal diffuser insde of them that my originals did not have. They produce a strange concentrated beam with all sorts of weird reflections off to the sides. Not the nice soft looking illumination that eventually tapers off to the sides. I think that this diffuser is to blame. Its not the chrome half dome diffuser that is found in most oem headlights. It is a square stamped steel box with a hole cut on the center. It is held in place by sliding into slots that are molded into the reflector housing. Im fairly convinced that these are the source of my problem. The originals did not have this. But, the originals do have the molded slots inside, just no metal diffuser. The inside reflector seems to be identical to the originals with all the same ridges and such. Do the stock lights have diffusers and someone removed them from mine? I have no others for reference. Or is it possible that the diffusers are required in different countries and the lights I bought were made to that spec? Can anyone verify if their stock lights have diffusers in them? You have to look really hard to see them from the front.
