Additives are horrible for your motor.
Don't believe any of that crap, regular synthetic does just fine.

If new and you can't afford Synthetic oil.. Then I used restore as a Sludge cleaner with every oil change.. From 1993 to 2008 on my Mark Vii and I ran full synthetic on the Stang from 1997 Til now.. No problems from my Bullet Proof 5.0 nor my 4.6... Always ran smooth

That Lucas shit will destroy your engine. We put it in some high mileage cars at work (over 250,000 miles), and a bunch of them will actually blow the oil filters off after about 3000 miles. The filters are rediculously heavy and clogged up when they do come off. I just run regular oil in my mustang and Mobil in the BMW, and no problems or leaks.

That's the pro's and Con's of Additives.. If you don't start using them on a regular bases when bought new... Then the Sludges & Deposits that built up for years.. Become part of the motor.. Keeping it running... Then you get into high Mileage.. And the very thing that kept the motor turning.. It's taken away with additives... Then the problems begin. Blown Head gaskets. ..Lost of compression ... Etc.. So if not a new motor.. Then don't start with high mileage cars...

Isn't that what it's supposed to do? Wouldn't the filters become heavy and clogged up BECAUSE the lucas shit was working?

No, because all of the Lucas was in the filter. There wasn't even any contaminants in the filter, just Lucas. It's never good when that crap causes your oil filter to fail and blow off the car while going down the road, causing you to lose all of your oil.

I've used plenty of lucas in my truck years ago. Never had an issue with it.

Were you using FRAM filters, or what?

The cars were designed to run with just regular oil, no additives. If that stuff worked then everything would use them. Just a waste of money and could possibly harm your engine. Just do what your owners manual tells you to do.

If you're worried about sludge and your motor's health, the best solution is to do a rebuild... Adding a bottle of shit from walmart isn't going to improve anything...

fram filters are nothing but pieces of crap IMHO. I'd never put one on any of my cars. These cars were either running Motorcraft filters or parts plus filters, which we put on everything we do a standard oil change in. They have never given any problems.

:p I've used FRAM forever without ssues. Not religiously, but enough to not have any annemosity using them.

The most important thing is to change oil. Whether it's Walmart brand or Amsoil, just changing it, with filter, on time in a street car is 99% of maintenance. I've allways done 5000 miles.

I don't use any additives, see no need. Although that Z-MAX stuff looked interesting, haven't used it. The ZDDP stuff hower may be a necessity for some motors.
