Oil at the bottom of my Intake Manifold

So I took off my Intake tonight to paint it to get some nice pics for ROTM and I noticed Oil inside the intake manifold at the bottom of the valley. It's just enough to see it move at the bottom. The engine has about 45k on it. Is this something I should be worried about? How much oil blow by is acceptable?

Thanks
Mike

thats nothing to worry about, just clean it out and you should be good. if you really wanted to (and i plan on doing since im not too comfy with oil in the manifold) you can get an oil seperator and install it so it catches the oil before it gets into the manifold. i cant remember how much these kits cost, but you can also make your own using parts from home Dept., you just gotta find the how-to on how to make one

I am not familiar with the oil in the intake manifold issue with these engines but this is something that should not occur since the oil and intake circuits are seperate. It may be coming from your PCV valve but I cannot imagine it pooling in the bottom of the intake.

What is this seperator you mentioned? I can't imagine.

Anyone have an Idea how I delete the PCV system all together and just run breathers?

I have heard that isn't a great idea because with out the vacuum from the intake with the PCV system the crank case won't vent properly.

I've been around cars for a long time, built and repaired cars, and around people building them too. This is the first I heard of needing a filter/drier for the PCV system. Why is that? Never been there.

I would advise against eliminating the PCV system. Some will say go ahead, but I wouldn't do it. The way to fix a problem is not by eliminating a necessary system.

almost all cars suck oil up in the pcv system... not all cars have an intake with the "tank" at the bottom like ours. say for instance the 5.0 the low part of the intake is the runners into the heads so there is no where for the oil to stand. But another problem i heard about was that the oil likes to stack in the valve cover when at WOT so that is why it sucks the oil up. not 100% sure about those but thats my take on it. I know R3DN3CK has some interesting ideas about the filtering of the pcv system and he sure hates the fuel filter pcv fix... b/c if you guys notice the filter in ther will get clogged b/c the oil is thicker than the gas so it will keep any pcv pressure going through the thing. just my .02

Yup, while most all cars suck some oil "mist" through the PCV it doesn't pool in the intake. I am 43 and have never had that issue. It must be something inherent in the design of the modulars maybe? I've never had one. Usually the oil stays suspended in the mist and gets burned up in the cylinders in such minute amounts that there is no blue smoke.

Hhhm, maybe a fix for this would be profitable??
